Hi. After waiting for a Miui upgrade for over a year Vodafone has rolled one out today. I've done the upgrade and I am unable to enable my SIM card and hence unable to make calls. Any ideas? TIA
Solved! Go to best answer.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for flagging and rest assured this is something we've been working on with the manufacturer to get you all connected to what you love again.
To keep you all updated, Xiaomi have advised that a patch is going through final testing through their side and we're looking to verify this from our side today.
All going well, this patch should be with you over the next few days, by next week at the very latest.
Please don't try any troubleshooting steps such as a factory reset or arranging a repair of the phone as once the software is out, this will resolve things for you.
Once we have confirmation that the fix is working and when it can be released, we'll let you know ASAP here.

That is awesome, I hope they can indeed deliver on their promise. Please keep us in the loop. Main issue I can see is that, as far as I know, the mi9 isn't in production any more, so might be hard to get enough stock for all users.
EDIT : I've posted your post on the Mi community, as I want as many users as possible to see it so that they can claim what they can, I hope you don't mind

If there is a plan of action we need everyone involved to do the same thing. Please update us with your intentions and I'll definitely follow suit!!
Cheers

I've emailed the CEO and had a call from someone from the Directors Office.
This is now being investigated and hopefully we will get some answers and a swift fix.
Good to be listened to, sometimes the 1st line tech support isn't the way to get the message across. This problem is higher than 1st line so I've made it known at a higher level.
Fingers crossed

Just got off the phone again to Vodafone ,telling them I am losing money I need my phone for work and all I got was I am really sorry can't send you out a new phone as you're had it longer than the returns date , all I can do is send a bag for repair , I said I will contact the CEO and hung up . I then got a phone call back asking me to go through the complaints process instead of contacting the CEO .

I have had nothing but excuses from Vodafone and no means of a solution. I've asked for a new phone either to swap or if they can swap it for a like for like but still going round in circles .Don't think I'll be going for this brand again .I love the phone too just a shame about the software

I'm another frustrated Mi 9 user. Was told on Sunday that they'd have it fixed within 24 hours... How I laugh now at that optimism.
At least my SIM works in my backup phone and my backup SIM doesn't work in my main phone. Kinda indicates that there's very much something wrong with the update...
Anyway, don't really care, just want my phone fixed. Given how impossible it is to speak to someone who actually knows what's going on I've raised a formal complaint with customer services using this form. Polite but firm, obviously! I'd recommend everyone do the same. A deluge of written complaints might help. Especially since their Customer Services phone number is currently experiencing "technical difficulties"... Maybe they're using Mi 9s?

I've also filled the online form in for a formal complaint. I spent 3 hours on the live chat this morning trying to at least get a temporary replacement handset but it was absolutely useless. They have allegedly arranged for a repair and will send out a postage bag and if there are any further updates from Xiaomi I'll just cancel it. Whilst on live chat, the advisor did a "sim service refresh" which took about 20 minutes and I received two emails stating my sim had been blocked/reported stolen which he told me to ignore. This didn't fix the issue and I'm now even worse off as prior to this I could at least receive calls and texts but not send and now I can't even receive! Tried to get back into customer service to get this fixed and they are saying there is nothing wrong with my sim. Honestly losing the plot.

Don't bother preaching, sale of goods act, ombudsman or talking hours to tech support - you all have a broken phone which is covered by warrantee, just ask for it to be replaced. I did, new phone arrived today, back up and running - sorted.

How was your replacement arranged? Did they sent out a bag and take it for repair or was it a straight replacement all along? Thanks

I was speaking to a technical bod who then passed me straight to replacements after I refused to speak to manufacturer. Quite simply this is nothing to do with them as phone was purchased or supplied on contract from Vodafone and is therefore their responsibility. Quite simply the phone has ceased to function and is under warrantee for 12 months by law its a simple matter of getting it replaced. Be reasonable but firm on the phone and it will get results - good manners cost nothing.
New handset arrived via DPD who took old one away - bit of a faff to set up from backup and reinstall apps but at least I have a working phone.
Good luck!
