WiFi Calling - Why Isn't It Supported On All Handsets?

Hi,

I recently re-joined Vodafone and I live in an area with poor reception from all networks, however with EE and o2 I have had wifi calling on my phone which remedies the issue somewhat.

It's enabled on my voda account, push messages sent to my phone but the option for it simply doesn't appear.

I have been told after much troubleshooting  not all handsets are supported for wifi calling on Voda.

I don't understand why it isn't supported on all capable handsets?

My current phone is a Realme X50 Pro, a flagship from 2020 and both o2 and EE sims worked with wifi calling flawlessly. Sim in and it just works with an option in call settings which doesn't happen on Vodafone.

Genuinely amazed this is the case when other networks do it with no issues.

It comes down to the way the service is implemented and Vodafone have decided, presumably for reliability purposes, only to make it available on devices they've tested.   Originally, it only worked on Vodafone-supplied devices, but that requirement has been dropped.

I have two (SIM-free) phones on my account, a Moto G8 Plus and a Sony L3.   The Sony worked out of the box, but the Moto doesn't, even though another mdoel in the same range has been approved and the operating systems are likely to be identical.  Whether wifi calling will ever extend to devices from manufacturers the network doesn't deal with at all remains to be seen.   It would be nice if it was universal and I'd like to think we're working towards that (maybe a standard option built into the OS).
