I have had a sync error message on my phone for a week now I dont use my phone much and havent had any trouble before last emails showing are May which is defintely wrong.

The first thing to do is to go into your settings, scroll down to Accounts and select your gmail, select sync account and make sure everything you want synchronised is ticked..
Other things you can try is going into your Applications, gmail > storage > clear cache and data. Try removing the account for your Account and re adding, this may force the emails to sychronise.
