I called Vodafone last week and explained that I want to use Vodafone Pay as You Go Mobile Broadband. I did also say that I DON'T need a USB modem as I have a laptop which already takes a sim card.
I was then told that i shall recieve a normal phone pay as u go sim which I need to then change to MOBILE BROADBAND sim by calling 08700700191.
I called that number and I have been transferred form one person to another and different departments. No body has been able to help me.
I ask if you can give me a number to call for this to happen and also tell me what the process is as I can explain to the Vodafone person to ensure its done correctly.
Any settings/ downloads which need to be done on the laptop?
I am not to sore why nobody has replied to my post, Its been a whole day?

I'm sorry for the wait; unfortunately we can't offer a sim only service for the Pay As You Go Broadband modems. Data tariffs operate differently to mobile phone tariffs and as such the only way to get this working would be to purchase a USB modem, even though you already have a capable computer,
If you've been advised that you can use a standard PAYG sim then this is incorrect, it will work in the computer but it will not have the Mobile Broadband tariff.

I am very disappointed with this.
Essentially you want us to purchase a USB modem which we don't require.
vodafone is not allowing us choice to meet our needs
Any suggestions to what I can do with the USB modem as I don't need it- will you offer us cash back for that.
I have approached the competitors and one has offered Pay as You go Sim only for mobile broadband.
I really enjoy using vodafone
But unfortunately I have been left with no choice but to take my business elsewhere.
Hopefully your marketing depratment is aware of this unmet demand- as you can tell from the number of veiws to this post and will respond accordingly in light of competition!!!!

We are looking at the possibility of making this available in the future, but it is not currently possible for us to offer.
The initial purchase of the modem, covers the cost of setting up the connection and partially subsidises the great pay-as-you-go rate that we can then offer you. It is likely that even if we did offer this service without the modem, there would still be an initial setup fee to pay. You should therefore not think of this as us forcing you to buy a modem you don't need, but rather buying access to a SIM that lets you use 1GB of data for just £15, which is still awesome value for money.

And you seriously think that we believe that the set up costs for a mobile internet sim are greater than a 'normal' phone sim, on which you can use the internet on your phone... Do you think we were born yesterday.
I would like to use Vodafone on occasion, but as I already have a suitable dongle, there is no chance that I am going to pay Vodafone £25 for something that will never be used and will just be chucked in the back of a drawer.
A business that turns down customers who want to give it money is ..., well let's just say it's not very sensible.

On a normal Pay-as-you-Go SIM, data is charged at a much higher rate, so costs are recooped that way. With a contract SIM, there is a garunteed revenue in the form of line rental. In order for us to be able to offer such a low rate as £15 per GB there has to be a one-off cost to off-set this. When you also take into consideration the fact that the credit on your Top-up-and-Go SIM will never expire, I really don't see how this could be viewed as unreasonable.
As I've said, don't view it as paying for the modem, view it as paying for a SIM that gives you better-than-normal value for money in the long-term.
