All,

While I've been looking around, trying to get to the bottom of my issues with this ###### E220 modem, I've found that the guys at Huawei/Vodafone have been leaving nice little deposits of logfiles everywhere.

I've been using the modem for a little over a month, and I had nearly a 600gig log file! No wonder my machine was running so slowly!

Anyways the file is called 'vpclog.txt' and I've found mine within the 'my documents' section.

I've had a look in the system registry, and the pillocks haven't turned off logging. Therefore, each and every time you use the modem it'll start creating a new file. (Obviously not very useful..)

So, to fix, try this (admin I'm happy for you to go test and confirm this is ok first..):-

Click on Start and then click on Run...(usually bottom right)
enter : 'regedit' and click OK
the registry editor window will open, it looks like a file explorer window (btw do not go mucking about in here unless you really know what you are doing)
expand the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER
expand the folder Software
expand the folder Vodafone
click on folder VCMLite
in the right hand window double click on 'use_logging' (about 2/3 of the way down the list)
the Edit DWord Value window will open
Change the Value Data: setting from '1' to '0' and click OK
close the Registry Editor by clicking the top right red cross
go back into My documents folder and delete the Vpclog.txt file

Hope this helps someone!
Chris
You are done. logging turned off and file deleted.

Hi C Collins,

Thanks for your suggestion there- I won't test it and confirm it works, as it's still outside what we're allowed to advise "officially" anyway. But thanks, if it works for you it'll no doubt work for countless others. Fantastic customer ideas and feedback are what the eForum is all about, so thankyou for this contribution.

P.S. Just a subnote, out of interest we've just looked for this on two laptops with two different modems, and neither had the logging enabled, so it looks like this could be an isolated issue.

Well maybe the nice little fellas at huawei have realised they left their logging on and thought to turn it off on round two of production?

I think this should be sticky so other users dont get caught out either.

The full version of VCM doesn't seem to leave any logs anywhere, so it's either just the lite version or maybe just the particular version of lite you're using.

Re : (the horrible) - vpclog.txt

I've just joined this forum simply to say THANK YOU!!!

The 'vpclog.txt' issue has messed with my computers function time & time again. After searching the net for a solution, I found your excellent advice. Followed it. Sorted it!

Weeks might pass before I notice that little 'vpclog.txt' in my documents file again. It sneaks back somehow......so again I search for your cure.

So far I've had to change the settings 5 times.

This time I felt I MUST tell you how grateful I am. Without your words of wisdom, I could have been pulling my hair out for ever more.

So, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I'd noticed my Dell x200 was displaying 'Insufficient disk space' for no good reason and I had then deleted several progams and photos to make more room. Then it happened again, so I looked more closely for the cause....

Yes, this infernal vpclog.txt had clogged up my laptop with over 4Gb of text junk. I killed it - and now have 20% more space on my laptop.

How can Vodafone accept such a situation? I've thrown away a lot of work thanks to this stupid vpclog.txt file - if I'd known before, then I'd have killed it long before its cuckoo-like presence caused me such grief!

Hi guys.

I can really understand your concerns and annoyances at this situation

These seems to only happen to a few customers in my experience, however I can appreciate on a laptop/net book space is a premium and this shouldn't happen.

Have you tried using the latest version of Vodafone Mobile Connect? I have been assured by my device specialist that this problem was resolved in version 9.3.

I’ve tested this on my own laptop and cannot recreate this issue so would suspect its been fixed now.

All the best
