All appears to be ok, but is it working?

Hi everyone, my v2 was recently replaced with a v3 under warranty, I have registered it and all appears ok, all of the lights are lit but the phones that are linked to it don't have a full signal.  One is an iPhone 5 with 4/5 bars, and the other is a Nokia Lumia 1020 that is registering 4 bars with H.

My question is - if the SS is working properly, should the handsets that are linked with it show a full 5 bars?  Should that also show 3G or 4G?

Thanks for reading.

OK without wanting to speak too soon, the VSS seems to be ok so far, power light solid red, internet light and service light both solid white and the in use light working when I make a call. Mobile signal showing 4-5 bars on H (incidentally where does H sit, do I have 3G at least)?

Still wondering if not opening port 33445 will cause problems?

Hi dannyyoung,

H is a faster connection than 3G so this is good! :smileywink:

As it's working you don't need to open any ports, I'd leave it as it is.

Well it was great for a day, now I have a flashing red light and constant orange first light.

Guess I'll try resetting again.  Over to you VSS support...

Hi dannyyoung,

Given the port changes since last time, I've given the box another resync to help clear any conflicts.

Follow the steps I posted before to reset the Sure Signal for me.

I'd keep an eye on that traceroute as well. If you find that it's gove over 200ms for any step when the connection fails, contact your internet service provider (ISP), show them the affected steps and ask them to check for any issues.

Hi Dave

i have reset and the lights appear to indicate that things are working. My mobile lost reception but I am going to put this down to the resync. Hopefully now everything will be ok...

cheers

Again, after a short while the mobile signal drops off and checking the VSS we have the flashing red, single orange solid internet light.

what needs to happen for this to just work? I really don't want to have to reset this every few hours, I just want it to work...

hi dannyyoung,

Can you post a fresh traceroute for me? I have a hunch that may be timing out again after a while and struggling to reconnect.

Dave

It looks like there are a couple that are taking quite a while - what do I specifically need to say to Sky (my ISP)?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

The issue is with your internet provider.

Basically, you need to ask them to look at your connection as the ping times between hops on your traceroute are quite high.

They need to get these below 200ms for the Sure Signal to work.

James

Hi James, I think the problem was with my router, it started to drop the wifi connection every now and again so I swapped it with my trusty old sky router and I think everything seems to be fine now - can you check from your end please?

Cheers

Danny
