Solution

Always Best Connected = Automatic/ Prompt?

tmantell
4: Newbie

Hi,

I have VF Mobile Broadband App version 10.3.210 installed & it work fine except for an irrating issue with is:

I have set it to Always Best Connected = Aitomatic

Yet; if my laptop does to sleep and/or is rebooted it always sets back to 'Always Best Connected = PROMPT'

I have reinstalled the VF app, have followed the 'setup assistant' - yet is always reverts to 'Prompt'

Can you advice how I fix this ?

Thanks,

 T

Hi tmantell,

That is a very good question and I’ve had to do a bit of digging for this!

When Vodafone Always Best Connected is set to Automatic, the application should automatically open and switch connections on behalf of the user.

One thing that I recommend checking is your Always Best Connected Switching Settings as follows:

-Allow switching to a Roaming connection.

-Allow switching when a VPN is open.

You can access these settings in the Vodafone Always Best Connected Setup Assistant.

Try changing the above to ‘allow’ and let me know if this resolves the problem :Smiling:

Thanks,

Jenny

Hello,

Thank you for your assistance - but I had already tried those options to no avail.

What I have done since is reinstalled my WIFI Driver & since yesterday - the 'always best connected = automatic' has been working.

I will however, keep an eye on it - as am not convinced this has fully solved it because I have got this working before & then sudenlty it will start going back to 'prompt' - which is very annoying.

Therfore, is there a way of forcing 'always' best connected when status is 'On' ?

Thanks,

 Trevor.

Hi tmantell,

I’ve checked for you and can’t see anyway of forcing the software onto a specific connection strength. We do have help guides and FAQs available from our Global Technical Support site. All you need to do is enter ‘always best’ in the search box at the top right of the main page, and a list of support options will appear.

Thanks

Andrew

Hello.

Always best connected (ABC) does change it's behavious based on various factors. The obvious ones are the connections available (and unplugging the USB modem or moving in and out of coverage) and this does affect automatic and prompt switching to a degree. ABC ALSO changes it's behaviour (manual/automatic/prompt) based on PC restart and sleep/wake.

What are the sequence of events that take place for this switching to occur?

- Is a Wifi connection available?

- Is there a network cabled connection attached?

- Do you have wifi higher in your priorities list within Vodafone mobile broadband (VMB)?

- Are you connected via the USB modem when all this is taking place?

- What are the sequence of events (from initial power on of the PC) that cause the switching behaviour?

Also, are you using a Mac or PC?

ABC has quite conditional behaviour so we'd need to know what the conditions are. I'm also assuming that you're wanting ABC to stay on automatic?

In addition:

I'm pretty sure that the ABC settings are haled in Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Opco\23415 United Kingdom/23415.xml

and/or

Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Opco\23415 United Kingdom/23415.xml/Opco-23415.xml

and/or

Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Templates\MobileBroadbandProfile.xml

In Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Opco\23415 United Kingdom/23415.xml/Opco-23415.xml there are quite a lot of ABC parameters, and the enterprise install guide (found here gives further information with regard to what the switches do). It might be possible to change the XML to specify the behaviour you want, as corporate IT departments occasionally require specific behaviour, and this is how they acheive it (hence the guides).

It's a little tricky to offer any advice without knowing all the conditions (mentioned above), but I hope this helps in soem way.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed update -

I am using Win 7 Pro

The behavouir of Automatic to Promt is not consistant - It will happen when connected to my home Wifi; when I resume from 'sleep' or from cold start - the VF connect is set to auto start & I notice it resets to 'prompt' - even if I ensure its set to 'Best Connected' prior to a a reboot.

Also; I sometimes oberve it will auto (Best Connect) to say 'Mobile Network' and this happen automtically - but then the 'Best Connected' resets to 'Prompt'..

I will take a look at the xml files to see if this provides  some clue to this issue.

Thanks,

T
