Anyone charge for "Maritime Data" when not using their phone?

I recently went to France on an overnight ferry. There was NO signal in my cabin, so I put the phone on charge and went to bed. In the morning, I descover a text that says "Welcome to Malta" (remember, I was only going to Le Havre!).

I then find that I have been charged £12 for data I did not use - when I was sound asleep, with no signal, and not using the damn thing. Not getting any joy from Customer Services, who seem hugely disinterested.

Hi @ukdragon

Did you leave your Mobile data setting turned On in the phone ?

Hey there,

I'm guessing from your post that you probably had data roaming switched on. Sounds like the ship has activated their martime network at some point, your phone has picked up the signal (hence the welcome to Malta text) and it's then billed you at maritime rates which are very high (see screengrab). You could easily run up £12 in your phone updating apps in the backgroundScreen Shot 2017-07-10 at 19.46.36.png
