Apple Iphone 3gs And Vtp

ok, tethering will be allowed on iphone and is called VTP; the tethering charges are £5 for 500mb, £10 for 1.5GB and £15 for 3GB. if you dont use it you lose it and there is no penalty if you sign up for £5 and actually hit 2.1gb then you just pay £15 that single month.

iphone has 1gb internet access provided in the cost per month..... is it possible to use that on tethering ???..... I guess your connection software reports back to vf and knows the difference.... is there any legal reason why I cant sort out the connection myself between iphone and laptop and then use it (legally of course) ???

I currently use Mobile Broadband 3GB thru a dongle and it costs a fixed £15 per month.

so my questions are......
will the iphone be as fast as the dongle as they both support 7.2 ? will the iphone be if its connected via bluetooth to the laptop ?

with VTP does the cost vary each month according to usage or is it part of the overall monthly charge you sign up for ??? i.e....
if I cancel within the 24 month period is my charge however many months left on contract times £45 (monthly contract) or is it times £50-£60 dependant upon tethering usage ?

thanks

Hi dvdgremlin

Welcome to the eForum :D

The 1gb usage is for use on the phone itself, this cannot be used for tethering. The settings are different at network level to access them both, so it is identifiable if either have been used.

If you sign up for the 500mb for £5 tethering extra and go over you then get you would then be charged per mb, it is always best been on the option that would cover your usage

Then network has to create the software etc so you can actually use these services so it wouldn't be possible to change these for an individual user

The iPhone is a hsdpa handset so it should get the same speeds as the dongle, but until it is released on the network we wouldn't know the answer. Also it is an area dependant with how good the signal is.

If you do cancel the contract it is based on the line rental for the remainder of the contract not including any extra services like tethering or insurance etc
