How is it possible that I made a call lasting 240 mins to one of my international numbers without me knowing? This resulted in a bill of £386

My friend whose number it is can remember. Could the number have been dialled by accident, but surely a connection must have to last that long? I a at a loss to understand

What does your internal phone log show?

 

Can it have been made while the phone was in your pocket or bag?

Hi, the log shows 240 minutes. And yes it is possible that the call was a hanbag call but surely the call had to connect and 4 hours? No way would I have had such a conversation on my mobile. My normal bills are between £7 and £9 per month

I note you mention the recipient of the call above - does their call log reflect the call connection at all?

Just to clarify it's the log in your own phones app that is showing the usage?

They said it was - sorry, I wasn't trying to cloud the issue.  I just thought that as they were asking about the validity of the call re connection and timescale, if it could be shown on the other person's call log as either a received call or missed call this might help to confirm the possible connection.  I know I've managed to "answer" a call when my phone was in fact in my jacket pocket and I was unaware of the connection.

I've done the exact same on earlier phones but nowadays with finger print technology and unlock codes and the fact that on some phones you have to swipe to answer these types of situations are now rare. 

 

Checking the phone logs on both phones certainly can give a clearer picture of the connection although a Network would only go by what's showing on their systems and in your own myvodafone.

Very true, less chance these days of someone saying "I called you but all I could hear was the rustle of your pocket and the sound of you walking..." - certainly the bill/sim information will be what is relevant from Vodafone's end.  Just thought it might give some extra clarification as to what's actually happened, as they can only give time/call duration rather than how its actually happened.  🙂

Its possible then that's what's occurred. 

 

My daughter can certainly hold a phone call for that duration!
