Hi Stitch-up,
You actually hit the nail on the head there when you called - your contract is with Vodafone UK, however by going to Germany you would be "roaming" onto another network.
Even though under the Vodafone banner, Vodafone UK is a separate company to the Vodafone networks in Germany, France, Spain and so on - the networks are completely separate, we cannot see accounts held with them, and so on. Whilst these are generally the recommended preferred network when roaming, often having the best coverage or capabilities, they still count as roaming as you are not on the Vodafone UK network. As your allowances are for the UK network specifically, they do not apply when roaming.
The good news is that Germany is in the cheaper roaming zone for data - check out the
roaming data prices listed on our website. For the "Europe" roaming zone, the daily (midnighty to midnight UK time) cost is £1 per meg up to 5MB, then £5 for every £5 MB after that. As you approach the limit, we'll send you a free text to warn you so that you know what's going on.
You can also opt into a spending cap of 50 Euros (approximately £43) if you wish, so you can use this to keep the costs down.
I'd also recommend making sure you have
Vodafone Passport for call costs, as this can help to keep other charges down for you. This additional option allows you to use your inclusive minutes allowance when overseas in passport countries - it doesn't allow for the use of your data allowance, though.
