Thank you,

Perhaps you're right. Perhaps Hotpoint are responsible for my Russell Hobbs kettle playing up as well.

So how come we all get it with O2 or EE not Vodafone then? That sounds to me like a Vodafone problem.

Nope, it sounds like a Blackberry problem to me.  An OTA update happens based on the IMEI number of the device.  It doesn't have anything to do with the SIM that is being used in the device.

If you have a phone that you've bought directly from Vodafone, you have it unlocked and are using it abroad on Orange, you will still get the update.  The SIM in the device doesn't affect that.  It is down to the IMEI number of the device and what firmware it has.

As suggested before, you need to ask Blackberry why you weren't able to update your firmware with a particular SIM in the phone.  This will be down to something they have to the firmware.

That's exactly it, you use an Orange sim card and you will get an update but not on Vodafone. If this was a fault of blackberry and not Vodafone then surely Vodafone would be the first people to jump up and say 'not our fault, talk to blackberry' considering that blackberrys mistakes are making many customers question their loyalty and the service of Vodafone.

Why would they?  They haven't supplied you with the handset and it isn't running their firmware.  The handset came from elsewhere and you seem to keep forgetting this.

I have a SIM free S6 Edge and by what you say I should complain to Vodafone if I don't get an update even though they didn't supply me with the phone.  Nonsense.  I should contact the manufacturer to find out more or the store that supplied it to me (although the manufacturer is likely to have a better idea of when an update may be available).

By your reasoning: as I drive a Vauxhall I should complain to BP if I want my onboard software updated because it is their fuel I use in my car.  It doesn't make much sense does it?

No other Android phone I know of won't update if it has a particular SIM card in it. In fact, you can actually update the firmware without even having a SIM card in it. As no other Android phone behaves this way, it would strongly indicate that it is something Blackberry have done to it.

So, in summary, contact Blackberry regarding the update.

Where did you buy your kettle - Carphone Warehouse ? (!).

Actually I haven't got a kette - we have a hot tap with instant boiling water. They're expensive but I recommend them.

I think the demise of Blackberry is a real shame. I had the two versions of the Blackberry Storm a few years ago that were universally panned by the critics. But the world of technology is full of names that didn't keep up with the times - DEC, Palm, Compaq, Nokia, Novell, Lotus Symphony, Wordperfect and so on and on.

No one will be able to challenge the behemoths of Apple and Samsung for years to come with Google itself probably about to become the most valuable company on the planet.

hi

i was also trying to find answers about when the priv is getting marshmallow update. To cut to the answer, i am with three but I just popped an o2 sim card into my phone and am now downloading the new marshmallow firmware.

i was also told by someone today from blackberry help on twitter private message that getting the firmware depends on network.  i can screengrab the message if no one believes me.

hope this helps

regards

Then this is something that Blackberry have done to the device.  With other Android devices the update happens for a particular device regardless of what network's SIM card you've put in it.

So would those who bought the Priv through Vodafone have got the Marshmallow update? I don't think anyone has yet.

I doubt it. I stuck a vodaphone sim into phone and waited for 1/2 hour...i got nothing but when i stuck an 02 sim in and went to "check for updates available", in less than 10 mins i got a message to saw there was a marshmallow update.
