Blind wireless PC does not see my router

I have 3 laptops and a desktop, all connected to my router by RJ45 cables and all works fine. They are all on windows 10. I have a 12" notebook running windows 10 that I need to connect by wireless. This PC cannot see the router or the internet. It sees many wireless networks in flats and houses near me but not the router. Why is this and how do I fix it?

Hi there,

THis might sound silly but if you have them all connected by Ethernet then do you have anything else connected to WIFI? Might be worth check to see if the WIFI light is on top of the router. has it been switched off?

If it's on it might be worthwhile going into the router settings via typing this into the address bar 192.168.1.1

and checking to see wifi settings in there.

If you have played around with all the settings and it looks like everything is good. WIFI is on and setting's are all good then it might be worthwhile doing a Factory reset of the router as Wifi might have an issue. THis should correct this problem.

To do Factory Reset please follow these steps...

Router must be factory reset via pin hole on back of the router in order for router to download new settings, unless the router was never provisioned before then it’s just a power cycle.

Hold button in until 4 flashing green lights come on and count for 30 seconds and let go. The router will turn itself off and on several times and within 5-10 minutes the router will achieve contact and activate then you should see no lights on the top of the router until you wave your hand over the top and see Green Wifi and Green Internet.

Hope this helps.

192.168.1.1 does not give me access. It is the right address for IPV4 DNS and 192.168.1.3 is the IPV4 address.

When I check it the green internet light comes on but the wifi light does not. Is a reset the best choice or is there another way?

Yeah if the Wi-fi light isn’t on then it’s been switched off. There’s a Wi-fi button on the side which you need to hold in for a few seconds and let go to switch it on again.

If that doesn’t work then you will have to reset.

OK, the reason I had to ask is that I cannot find my set up booklet, sad as I am a very careful person. I did not want to reset so as to not interfere with the working settings on the other 4 PC's. I used the wifi button on the router and then went through the wifi connect process. It worked fine, quite easy in fact. I only fire up the 12" now and again. If I press the wifi button again will it turn OFF the wifi? There are so many wireless networks near me I prefere a wired connection and no wireless activity. I would like to be wireless free until I need to update the 12", at which time I could re-awaken wireless acyivity, deal with the 12", then turn wifi off again. Is this the right way to do it?

.

Hi,

if if you reset to factory settings it shouldn’t interfere with the other PC’s you have connected as they are Ethernet.

The wifi button if showing Green is on and if you wave your hand over it and it’s not on then the Wi-fi button is off. So  watch out for that. If you want to turn it off you can by following the same step I explained before.

Hope I’ve helped

Separate the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands and report back.
