Broadband. Can't use my own router.

I've seen plenty of posts about this but just wanted to add my experiences as of 22nd Jan 2017 to the mix.

Firstly I am very keen to move to Vodafone 76Mb asap.  I'm currently a BT Infinity 2 customer and would sign today.  I'm already a phone customer of Vodafone.

Having being bitten previously, I like to check everything before such a move (as I rely on broadband for business and home use).  I used the Live Chat a few days ago and confirmed all my questions, including that I could use my own router on the network.  They even asked for information regarding my router (to sign me up right there), which I didn't have as I was at work.

Today I searched the forums and it became apparent that whilst Vodafone "can" allow use of your own router, they do not by default.

So I called the salesline telephone number this morning.  I was told "You can use your own router once you are signed up and the Vodafone one is working. I don't pay attention to the forums. I've never had a complaint about this".  However I asked to be put through to Tech Support anyway because in my experience you don't have so many people complaining on forums for nothing.

Tech Support then confirmed that they WOULD NOT allow use of my own modem and (after checking) have no plans to do so in the future.

So there you go.  Vodafone - you have customer wanting to take up your top service right now, but I can't because I want to use my own router.

For other new customers, be warned.  You will not be advised about this by the sales team.

Created it an hour / so ago.  Can't think why it would contravene any guidelines.  But it did mention my Dad not getting the speeds he was told he would at sign up.  If that's the reason I guess this post will be deleted too, along with my interest in Vodafone's Broadband.

Was it your own thread or a post you added to an existing thread ?

If you tap on your name all your posts made will be visible.

I'm wondering if the post you made glitched for some reason.

The Vodafone Team want all discussions here and I can assure you do not heavily moderate even if the post is a negative one as long as it does not infringe the Guidelines I pointed towards earlier.

Posts are never deleted because they are critical of Vodafone

Well all I was asking was if I'm on BT Infinity 2 and getting 55Mb/s, does it stand to reason I will get exactly the same on Vodafone 76 ?

The Vodafone Broadband online Checker should indicate what you could receive.

I've seen posts where they have moved isp provider and the speeds can be the same , more or less.

Ofcom has a good site Ofcom-checker

I don't trust the checker.  It said my Dad would get 38, he got 21.  Previous to that he was on a much slower (non-Fibre) connection so unfortunately there was no way to compare.

The vodafone router is fine if you don't have any understanding of technology and if you only have about 5 wifi devices to connect. My wifi constantly disconncts devices and when I spoke to vodafone they stated that the contract is for broadband only, they have no obligation to provide wifi. They said that I was really pushng it to expect to connect 7 devices and that we should turn wifi off on each device as soon as we'd finished using it! There are 3 adults in the house, each with phones, tablets, laptops not to mention an echo dot and a couple of smart tv's - surely not that unusual and easily handled by my old ISP router. Unless vodafone change their policy of allowing you to use your own router I shall be forced to leave as soon as my contract ends, which is a shame because otherwise I've been quite happy with the speeds etc.
