Does anyone know when exactly I need to swap over my modem

Taking a big assumption here - you are transferring to Vodafone and want to know when to plug the router in?  If so, plug it in the night before or morning of your activation date and leave it as the switch can take place anytime in that 24hr period.

Your presumption is correct. Is that what you did, plug it in 24 hours before it was activated

I plugged mine in the morning of the activation date and left it.
