I am an IT person for a large-ish organisation. We've had devices using Windows 8.1 with 4G cards and we noticed that the Mobile Broadband connection would replace any local DNS servers that we had with Vodafone's. Typically 10.203.x.x or 10.206.x.x. This is problematic when connecting to our VPN as the DNS settings stay as Voda so no internal name resolution works. On the 8.1 devices we used a script run via GPO to add override DNS servers on boot using netsh commands, which so far has worked.
Recently we've had reason to do the same on Windows 7 devices, but the commands only work once the Vodafone connection is active, so since it runs on boot, it doesn't work. You can change it manually later on or run a script, but this is overridden on reconnect and requires admin rights.
Does anyone know a way to prevent the Mobile Broadband connection from using Voda DNS? It's driving me up the wall.
Thanks
