Data Sim

I live in the Isle of Man and am planning to go to Scotland at end of August for a holiday.

I intend to buy a data sim for my holiday to fit into my dongle. I can buy a data sim online.

My question - At what point does the clock on the data start running? Date of purchase? From first connection? Some other time?

I hope someone can answer this
