Solution

Default Vodafone account on my credit file

I took out a pay monthly contract with Vodafone in August 2012 and finished in 2014, closed the account as I didn’t need it anymore.

This is 2017 and I had a very good job with one of the big four consulting firm and along the line they were doing a risk assessment on all employees and to cut the story short I was laid off board.

I got another interview with another financial institution and after the interview process which I passed alright I was told they wouldn’t get me on board and was told to check my credit file.

So I checked and realised Vodafone has put a default on my credit file on January 2015 for £39 default..my account is closed and I did not get any letter to advise that I owe anything.

Now i can’t get a good job with financial institutions let alone a mortgage and it all seems everything has crumbled. I am distressed and not knowing what to do I found this web forum while I was checking for a solution.. can anybody help me out here and how can I get these Vodafone default off my credit file and get my life back in order.

Regards
Danny

Hi @Danny39

I understand how damaging a default can be.

When you closed down your Vodafone Account did you after paying the final bill receive a Sorry your Leaving letter and a £0 bill which confirms account cancellation ?

Also did you leave your Direct Debit open and not cancel it while everything was being settled ?

Id now suggest to let the Social Media Team here who read all posts catch up with your thread and they'll help you with this situation if they can.

Hi @Bandofbrothers

I remember calling vodafone at the time the contract finished and after paying the last month, i rang to ask if any more bills and i can remember like yesterday the lady said it has all been paid and account closed just so i am sure before going ahead cancelling the direct debit.

@Danny39 I appreciate how upsetting this can be.
So we can take a closer look into what's happened with your old account, I've sent you a private message with details on how to get in touch with our Credit specialists.

I'll just add that when I left Vodafone, I never got a final bill or a sorry you're leaving letter. All that happened is all access was removed from my online profile so I could see nothing but.... being a long time user of this forum. I deliberately left my direct debit in place as I figured it'd be a lot easier to raise a billing query than risk Vodafone doing anything to my credit score.

As it happened, Vodafone did create another bill, not share it with me or notify me of it but then took it out of my account. Not for a huge amount so I did the right thing by leaving things in place.

It's well documented that Vodafone customers have experienced some billing issues and the fact that this whole "I've been landed with a default in error" seems to be a common theme on the forum at times would make me think that we shouldn't post and talk about sorry you're leaving letters or final bills as I can confirm they don't always arrive.

What does amaze me though is how Vodafone let these situations arise. Working on the theory that these debts are correct then surely Vodafone have credit managment teams dedicated to ensuring money isn't owed. Again, in all these cases no-one mentions a single call or letter or text from Vodafone to say that an amount is outstanding.

The theme seems to be people checking their credit files for other reasons and finding either (a) defaults they knew nothing about or (b) Vodafone accounts still writing to their files long after they closed.

Whilst it's a theme on the forum, it does make me wonder how many other people have this issue and contact Vodafone directly rather than post on there.

But the good news is all these threads go quiet after Vodafone get in touch so I'd like to think they're being resolved and things put right.

Good luck

@donnyguy

very accurate reply.. and what instantly came to my mind is how many other people that has left Vodafone and don’t have any idea of what damage is waiting for them on their credit file from Vodafone because they haven’t had any reason to check ... we are only on here because at some point we had to check the credit file for one reason or the other.
