Drop In 3g Reception?

Hi,

Been using a contract 3G dongle for roughly 8-9 months now in 1 location and have been getting 4/5 3G reception for the whole time, although over the past couple of days the best I'm getting is 1 bar 3G with it usually being a 5 bar GPRS signal I am recieving.

This is no good at all, I am having to use my iPhone to get things done but Safari isn't the best browser for what I need the connection for.

But I have heard rumours that the Vodafone 3G network will struggle due to now having the iPhone on its network and hence 3G usage will take a massive jump on Vodafone.

Have also checked the coverage map to see if there are any engineering works etc that would affect my signal at this time but everything seems ok, well, the website says so anyway.

So not happy at paying £25 p/month for a GPRS signal.

Any help would be excellent.

Thank you.

Hi again cyndy_hughes,

As promised, I'm back with an update of sorts....

Ok, I've had another look on the progress of the parts and delivery, but there's no change in that respect. With this in mind, and the fact I'm not back in again till Wednesday of next week, I'm passing this over to BenJ to follow up for you.

Cheers,

Hello, I'm back.

My reception seems to be back upto 4 sometimes 5 bar 3G. But it's incredibly slow, even this site takes a good 30 seconds to open up a new page. It's no good.

I had 3G+ before this site went down and had to be repaired, now it's only 3G and really not a good service at all still. Browsing this site takes around 30 seconds to open up a new page, which is just no use to anybody.

The only thing I can think is there are still on going problems or sub standard parts have been fitted, hence I no longer have 3G+.

I'm not impressed at all, my letter I'm ready to send off was just about claiming money back for the lack of usage I've had out of this. But if I find out parts of not the same quality have been fitted I will be furious. I might be jumping the gun and hoping I'm wrong, but this is well over 2 months now. I think if you were in my shoes you would react exactly the same way, it's not a good service is it?

Thank you.

Hi cyndy_hughes,

I completely understand your frustration here.

I’ve looked into this (ref: 1955120) and can see that the work is still ongoing.

The latest update says that the estimate date of arrival for the parts is the 8th March 2010.

I don’t have any further updates other than this however as soon as the parts are received, the engineers will then be able to visit the site to fix the problem. :)

Thanks for the quick reply again.

So some work has been done, as I do have a 3G signal, but some extra parts (To make the area 3G+ again) are still required to be fitted? Is my understanding correct?

If so that is fine, can't ask for much more than that.

Thank you.

Hi cyndy,

The new parts were fitted on the 8th, but it was noted that 3G is still showing alarms for degraded signal, so the case for this fault has not been completely closed. Needless to say we are still working to restore full service, but we are getting there! :)

So are there any further repairs planned to fix this? As I said, 3G is good for basic stuff, very basic browsing for example. But anything like video streaming or sending large emails is murder, really need the 3G+, especially since I have had it for the majority of my contract so far.

I feel that you really need to try a wee bit harder to speed things up and get it fixed. Soon this will have dragged over 3 months, at least a waste of £75 in my part, not good enough really.

I appreciate at the same time though efforts have been made, but for such a big company like Vodafone, I expect ALOT more. So kinda dissapointed.

Hi Cyndy,

We work all faults on the basis of priority, much like a Triage unit - where the most serious faults are dealt with before the less serious ones.

A total loss of service is the highest priority, or "P1", and then we have lower numbers for lower priority cases. Once the site was back up and running again, and we had experienced no further total outages, we naturally downgraded the priority from P1 to P3. Any further work to be done on the site, will unfortunately take a little longer, and we really can't do anything to speed this process up, although I totally appreciate the inconvenience.

There are more materials due to arrive on the 17th, and it looks like there will be some more ongoing work starting on the 22nd, so you should not have much longer to wait before things are back to full power again :)

That's fair enough.

I will be back a couple of days after the 22nd and let you know if I am in any better a situation.

Thank you.
