Edinburgh Issues?

Hi,

I'm just wondering if the mods could confirm or advise on the status of the mobile broadband in the Edinburgh area over the last few days. Both a guy at my work and myself have been getting "Disconnected" after a few hours connected which has only just started happening to both of us.

The modem still shows a solid blue light and the computer shows it's connected, however you are unable to surf the net. Once you have disconnected and reconnected it's fine again, however it's just a bit weird since it's only just started happening and it's be great up till now.

We are using different modems and he's on a PC and I'm on a Mac (it's just like the advert!)

Thanks in advance

Peter

Hi there Peter

We can certainly advise, however we'd need to know a bit more about the location you're referring to, this is due to the multitude of sites that exist within Edinburgh.

At first glance there are no apparent issues, however as I’ve pointed out a post code will allow us to actually study signal in a specific area, :)

In the meantime I’d recommend having a look at our coverage maps, they don't provide a real-time coverage analysis, but they will give you an idea of what to expect in terms of signal strength.

Thanks

Thanks Reidar,

The postcode I work from is EH2 1DG

The connection seems to be improving so might have just been a bug.

Cheers :)

HI Peter,

It's great to hear your connection is improving :D

I've checked the postcode you gave us - EH2 1DG - but our systems don't recognise it

If you're still having the same problems could you recheck your postcode and give us another shout?

I had problems making calls and sms on Saturday night a 9-50pm outside the Museum of Scotland Chambers Street
Edinburgh EH1 1JF. I could get through to Vodaphone but Voice calls and SMS did not complete

Hi Iain,

I can see that there are a couple of 3G sites which cover that location, so I've checked both.

There's something which may indicate an issue which I'm raising to get checked, so thanks for bringing that to our attention. In the meantime, did switching to 2G make any difference? If there was a specific 3G issue in the area, then the handset may not have switched to 2G only, meaning a weak 3G signal could keep it trying to connect that way.

Hi Iain,

Glad I got to speak with you earlier.

I've asked our tech bods to have a check on the nearby cells to that location and they've confirmed that there is no current issue on these. They did say that it may have been due to intermittent demand in the area restricting the avaiolable bandwidth - I get the same myself on occasion where I get strong signal but a message the network is busy on my X1.

If the problem does reoccur for you, please let us know. It may be that there is an issue, and we're happy to check for you, but if not, given the intermittence of the occurrence, it may be that there is a problem with the handset which our repair teams would need to take a look at. Our repair thread will give you all the details you'd need for that. If you have Vodafone Cover Me Insurance, you'd also be entitled to a courtesy phone whilst yours was away, so you wouldn't need to go without.
