Hi Guys
I will be getting an upgrade Galaxy Note 3 tomorrow.
So I want to copy items from the phone Galaxy S3 to my SD external card.
Firstly, I have a terminology issue (I am on Android 4.3)
I have opened the My Files folder and the menu options are Device Storage and SD memory card.
Am I right in assuming that the Device Storage is the mobiles internal storage and SD Memory Card is the MicroSD card I have put into the phone i.e. external storage.
The reason I ask, is that all video's I look at, have diffent terminology.
Secondly, I want to copy anthing that is useful from the internal storage to my external card.
Can anybody suggest how I transfer photo's, music, contacts and text messages, please
Many thanks

Hi there
You are correct, SD memory card is the SD card that you have inserted into the device.
Your contacts should be backed up to your GMail and should automatically restore to your new handset when you sign into your Google account. Text messages can be backed up using SMSBackup+ and restored to your new device. As for photos and music - it depends on where you stored them in the first place, it is possible that most already are on the SD Card. It may be easier for you to connect the phone to your PC and use it like an external drive and copy and paste your music etc from the phone memory to the SD card.

Thank you drey_p.
So I don't have to do anything in relation to contacts as Gmail already has them stored. Is that correct?
Thanks for the tip on SMS backup.
I suspect that most things like photo's and music are on my external storage. However, I take you point and will put everything on my PC.

Your contacts should be backed up to Google already, it may be worth going through them and double checking each one to be on the safe side. Although, any contacts that aren't backed up to Google can be sent between the handsets by Bluetooth.

Thanks
What is the mqin difference between SMS Backup+ and SMS Backup & Restore?
It's just that Backup+ seems to have people complaining it doesn't restore.

Actually I have used SMS backup and restore and it was a doddle.

I also decided to try Kies and see what it did. I upgraded to Kies 3. Wow what a massive improvement. Quick as well.

One small problem I have found is that if you have picasa ticked in there for syncing it can use alot of your data allowance up if you not on wifi.
