HTC One Sending strange texts

My HTC One has starting sending texts to 33819253539035 at random intervals. I first noticed it on my statements in February, and it has since sent 7 more.

I am being charged 25p for each of these texts (none of which I have sent) despite having unlimited texts on my plan

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi janeleckebusch

It was nice of your daughter to show you how to factory reset the phone :).

We're unable to recommend third party apps or services, however a quick Google should bring up some suggestions :).

Thanks

I am very much hoping this problem may now be solved after my daughter's friend (currently studying Computer Science at Uni) found this for me:

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.billgbennett.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fbeen-charged-for-sen...

It would appear the free McAfee app is the likely culprit.....as you guys had more or less worked out!!
I have uninstalled it and await my next bill with interest!
Thank youagan fr all your help!  :Smiling:

At the risk of teaching my granny to suck eggs, were you aware that you can track your usage with the My Vodafone app and see the details of calls, texts, etc on My Account above?   Just navigate to the Unbilled Usage section.

I think the issue of these texts has emerged before and I belive Kaspersky was the culprit in that case.  It would be nice to know what the content is and whether they're standard (I'd guess not or this would be more prevalent) or the result of ticking a relatively arcane option in settings.

Hi I have a dual sim phone, with my work Vodafone (2g) SIM in it as well as my 3g non-vodafone one in it. My work phone contract does not include data and therefore has no way of accessing the apps on my phone. I received the bill this last week and noticed this same number had 3 texts sent to it. Could someone explain how this would happen? The SIM slot on the phone in use at that time was 2g only.

antivirus app suggestion...

load and install AVIRA. German build and security.
Use it on my PC (the free version) and both integrate perfectly if you log in to a free account.
On the pc i know through experience that it catches viruses, trojans, ads and key logging files.

the mobile version is just a good, even spotting my favourite contact backup app to have one had a wierd file in it, shortly to be corrected by the developer with much gratitude..

Thoroughly recommended over AVG, Panda and the rest of the highly advertised apps and products.

AVIRA just sits there and wins plaudits every month onlline in tests, nice and quietly...

The mobile app also has the find my phone, remote wipe, lick and screech too.

Tink.
