How Do I Tell V. Lite K3565 To Allow A Program Through

Hi I have a Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite K3565 Rev 2 usb stick which I use with my laptop (vista) to access the internet. However unlike my 3G usb stick it will not allow an add-on to a program I use via the internet to work.

To allow this add-on program to work on my home PC I have to access my router and add a custom service in the port fowarding, telling it which port and which IP address. My 3G allows the add-on to work without having to do this, but the V. Lite doesn't. Can anybody tell me how I can tell it to allow this add-on program to work?

If I can't get it to allow this add-on then I will have wasted £39, as the only reason I bought it was because I am a light user outside of the house and it allows me 270 days to use my allowance and not the 30 days that 3G does.

for some reason I couldn't edit my post. So I've re-written it below with more detail which may help define the problem I have abit better.

Hi

I have a Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite K3565 Rev 2 usb stick which I use with my laptop (vista) to access the internet when away from home. However unlike my 3 usb stick it will not allow an add-on to a program I use via the internet to work.

To allow this add-on program to work on my home PC I have to access my router and add a custom service in the port fowarding, telling it which service (UDP), which ports to start and finish at (9742) and which IP address to send it to (I'm on a network).

My 3 usb allows the add-on to work without having to do any of this just plug it in and voila, but the V. Lite doesn't. Can anybody tell me how I can tell it to allow this add-on program to work?

If I can't get it to allow this add-on then I will have wasted £39, as the only reason I bought it was because I am a light user outside of the house and it allows me 270 days to use my allowance and not the 30 days that 3 does.

Hello Rubberneck

I must admit you had me confused there for a while as you referred to 'your 3G modem' (they are all 3G capable), I later realised you were referring to 3 (the network).

No doubt this issue is caused by our servers and network; however I can't guarantee that certain third party applications will work by default. It may help if you indicated what application you are using as this may shed some light, as well as attract the attention of any other forum users in a similar situation.

Thanks

Hi the program is Planeplotter and the add-on is for Multilatarisation (MLat). I say add-on for want of a better word, it is actually part of the planeplotter program.

The Planeplotter program itself works okay as all data is being received. The MLat option doesn't. This is where I send a request to the planeplotter server for extra information which is then fed back to me alone and not all the other users logged into the server.

I've been told that Vodafone (& BT) dongles have locked ports, which those from 3 don't. Hence my problem.

How do I unlock the ports??

Hi rubberneck,

Thanks for getting back in touch with the info Reidar requested!

Our modems don't currently block ports (or channels) on our services, however, other factors could have a part to play depending on the information trying to get through.

One trick that you could try is to install an older software version that allows for optimisation. This will effectively compress and clean the data through and prevent possible restrictions in the data. However this feature is only available to Windows PC users, so I'd like to crash heads with Reidar to see if we can figure out a similar work through for MAC users like yourself.

We can't guarentee that all third party software will work with the modems but we certainly try to suggest fixes wherever possible when an issue does arise. If you watch this space we'll have an investigation and get back to you ;)

Cheers, Ben

My laptop is windows Vista home premium so an older software version should be okay. Mind you with vista you never know as I find that with some programs they don't work properly if installed in the default c:program folder, you have to install it in a user defined folder i.e. c:user. I wonder if that may be the case here???

Can you advise where I can obtain an older version and how much of an older version should I try?
