How To Set Up Data Card To Use With Tainy Gmod-t1 Unit

MonikaB
Not applicable
Requirement:
We have got a data card specificaly to use with the Tainy Gmod-T1 unit. This unit will transmit data only.

What we’ll do is put this data sim card into the Tainy Gmod-T1 unit, than this unit will be connected to the control panel of the lift and will transmit data to a computer/laptop.

We would need the phone number and the IP address of that data sim card, because once is in the lift control panel, we want to be able to dial it up. We will monitor that lift, we then will receive any faults that happened with that lift at theat moment and we'll send instructions remotely.

Fault:
The data card won't set up. it doesn't seem to dial up the connection. If we add the data card to a phone it accepts data, but if we put it back into this GPRS unit and try to connect via the lap top, it won't work.

Solution:
Would appreciate any advice.

Many Thanks

Hello MonikaB

Welcome to the eForum and I'm sure we'll do our best to advise you.

Certainly an interesting setup, one that i've not heard of before but being a techno geek I'm suddenly overwhelmed by an irresistable urge to find out everything about this brilliant sytem, anyhow back to the point. If you could provide the sim number of the sim card we can easily ascertain what the number is, alternaltively simply put it into a Vodafone branded handset and dial *#100#, this will give you the mobile number.

In terms of connectivity via the data unit, depending on what software facilitates the dial up connection you will need to setup the correct APN before you have any hope of creating a data channel, is the sim card Pay As You Go or contract?

Please take the following settings into consideration:

Pay monthly contract sims:

APN: internet
user: web
pass:web

Pay As You Go sims

APN: pp.internet
user: web
pass: web

Please get back to me as soon as you can with an update to all of the above, i'm keen to help, :)

Thanks

Hi Reidar

Thanks for your help.

We managed to get our data communication link working with our Kollmorgen Lift Control Panel by connecting the Tainy GMOD-T1 using GSM settings instead of GPRS.

Could you please tell us if it's possible to connect to this Tainy GMOD-T1 via internal modem of a laptop computer and a mobile phone instead of a BT line?

Many Thanks

Monika

Hi Monika

This ones getting a little confusing!

You can use a mobile phone to connect to the internet. This would require that you have XP/Vista or and Mac OSX operating system (As these are the sytem requirements for doing this. Then it depends on the model of phone you wish to connect too. For instance Sony Ericsson handsets have software packaged in the PC suite that will allow you to do this. Just install the PC Suite software for the handset to detemine whether or not you have this option.

You wouldn't be able to use the internal modem of the laptop as this would require connectivity to a BT landline.

Please let me know how you get on and if you have any more questions just let me know

Thanks

Wayne
