Hi, is this happening in all locations or a sopecific one? if just one there could be a network problem in that area.
If its just one area try the network checker here
If its all areas have you tried clearing the data/cache form the app? Go to menu, settings, apps (app manager) scroll along to all then down to messages, enter it and then clear data and clear cache.
If that doesnt work you may need to try a factory reset.
If that doesnt work you may need to try a repair of the handset.

Did you try any of the suggestions above? If none of them work, it might be worth getting a new SIM - a Vodafone shop can give you one and also activate it for you.
