I was on chat earlier today trying to get a better deal than the website offers.
All current offers available contain data/minutes/texts that I get no where near to using and so I was asking for the upfront handset fee to be dropped or significantly reduced alongside my allowance.
Although generally helpful, the adviser was only able to reduce the upfront handset fee by reducing it by £10 but completely ignored my request to reduce the bundle criteria - why would that be? Surely if they didn't give me as much data etc then their overall costs are lower and so they can reduce the upfront handset fee.
Can anyone explain this to me please?

The allowances are set so they cannot swap and change them.
Sometimes independents like Cpw can offer more tailored tariffs but discounts such as employers vea is not available.
The nearer a person is to their contract end date the sweeter the deal typically. Not so sweet if your at your upgrade date.

Just a thought but if you call 191 and choose thinking of leaving you should get through to retentions who maybe able to offer something.

Hi @melsox
You were fortunate to get £10.00 off the upfront phone charge. Vodafone won't usually discount any iphone tariffs, they will be set for all customers.
Vodafone are sending you an expensive phone, something they can easily sell without any discount. Vodafone as with any other network, need to recoup the cost of the phone, provide a service to go with the equipment and try and make a little profit at the end of the contract.
You can try an independant, such as Carphone Warehouse, they may be in a better position to offer a contract at a lower price.
