Hello forum. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
Just got an R206. Yesterday got quite a bit of use and consumed a moderate 60MB of data. This seemed okay.
Today turned the thing on just the R206 monitor page on browser and left for a while came back munched 360MB of data. 1/3rd of my "free" 1GB included with this thing.
Checked firewall nothing accesing internet other than browser. Nothing on browser other than R206 monitor page. All other applications not allowed access on internet I controlled this via firewall.
Can only assume a TIMER clock has been programmed on this device to off load the DATA.
Unless i am doing something seriously wrong.
I have read quite a few complaints from other users online reporting a similiar issue of the device off loading / dumping data like this.
Any suggestions?

Just a thought I am wondering if the Vodafone APP itself is the cause of the data drain?
Assuming because it is displaying phone number, incoming text messages, time connected etc
assuming to obtain this info it needs to keep pinging the Vodafone Data Server?
On this basis is it infact the Vodafone Mobile Wifi App thats the cause of the data drain?
Spoken to Vodafone Customer Service verging on useless (one woman from Egypt pretty rude too!)
Maybe getting this thing unlocked is the way to go? Only got it yesterday what a JOKE

Got to the bottom of this now.
Using the Internet Data Analysis / Web Debugger tool Fiddler I have analysed the problem.
The answer is its the nasty Vodafone App that comes with the Dongle which you access by putting 192.168.0.1 into your browser.
As suspected this thing once activated goes crazy and keeps sending requests to the Voda Server constantly pinging it and making requests (in other words using up data). How long am I online, have I received a text message etc etc.
To put this into perspective if you make a request to google (ie by putting google.co.uk into the browser) then you get approx 3 pings in Fiddler.
If you access the voda app you get approx 10 pings per second and by all accounts from what I can see it speeds up.
Moral of this story!! The user complaints about this thing munching data are TRUE.
Cause the horrible voda app that comes with it. Only access it if you really need to know your data consumption, time online and have i received a text message etc. Once done get it off the screen dont keep it active in a TAB because if you go for a cup of tea or something your gonna gobble all your data.
If im honest reading between the lines if you were vodafone is it in your interest to program an APP like this that conserves DATA. I dont think so!!
Also I spent approx 1.5 hours on the phone today talking to vodafone "technical support" dont waste your time hit the forums. Technical support these days from these larger companies is the concept of employ clowns to feel you are getting "support" but in reality the idea is to annoy you sufficiently to go away.
The voda "support" in Egypt was seriously RUDE and of course useless. Bad show vodafone
