hi

ive a k3520-z usb modem. Unable to get the install to detect the device. on Macbook pro 2.4intel running OSX 10.5.6.

each and every time i insert the dongle, the VISE installer appears if i choose to select it, it installs the software. However running the software only results in a ' no device detected , closing ' message. No device appears in the network setup. removal and reinsertion gives the same vise window every time.

ive downloaded latest version of the installer from the vodafone business site, same issue. After install no detection of modem.

I spent an hr in the vodafone store in glasgow with my mac, noone could get it to work.

I previously had a e220 huawei it worked perfectly

please advise setting etc needed to make this operate. This is the only thing ive put into a mac that doesnt work, pitiful!!

ive just read a message from a guy on this forum from vodafone spain, EXACTLY the same problem, the response to him was we only support UK networks so come on guys do your bit!!

cheers

Hi neilsonphoto,

A warm welcome to the wonderful eForum! :D

In all honesty I’m not 100% sure about this so I’m going to ask one of my more technical colleagues to take a look at this for you as soon as they come into the office.

Don’t worry, I’m positive we’ll get this sorted!

In the mean time, as you’re new to the forum and clearly an online user, I want to take the opportunity to tell you about the fantastic things you can do through my account, such as managing your price plan or adding or removing bars. I recommend you take 5 minutes to take a look at all of the things you can do online without having to contact the call centre, saving you lots of time!

All the best,

Jenny

Hi neilsonphoto

This is an odd problem but I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it. In future, it will help if you could let us know what they did in store for the hour, to save us going over the same things here. :)

This issue sounds like a problem with insufficient power. Could you try to use a dual or powered usb cable as this would very likely fix the issue.

If it doesn't the best course of action now would be to narrow down the list of possible causes:

We know the Vodafone Mobile Connect software is fine (as we have a few Mac users here).

The Sim or network setup wouldn't cause the modem to not show up, so we can rule this out too.

That just leaves the Modem or laptop and the store might have already solved that one. Did they try a different modem in your Mac? If they did and the same issue occured we know that the Mac is at fault. In this case it would be worth speaking to Apple or a Mac specialist. If it's not the Mac then we need to sort out the modem. If you only purchased the modem in the last few weeks you will be able to get a replacement at the point of sale. If you've had it for longer then you'll be able to get it repaired for free - just see the Vodafone Repairs thread.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers

J :)

Hmmm, I actually think I know what's going on here as I had pretty much this exact same problem myself today.

I had an E172 but unfortunately lost it. I received a replacement - the K3520 - in the post today. Plugged it in. Nothing. Fiddled about. Tried it a few times. uninstalled software, installed software. Still nothing. Was a bit miffed considering I'd waited in most of the day to receive a bit of kit that was now looking like a dud.

Then it occurred to me that the modem actually gets added as an additional network interface in the system network settings (System Preferences>Network) for your current location. There in front of me was the entry in the left column for the Vodafone E172. So I deleted it.

Bingo, it all started working.

So, I'm guessing that the network settings for your current Location include the E220 that used to work for you - and that this is causing a conflict. Therefore, I suggest either (a) create a new location for the K3520, or (b) delete the entry for the E220 if you're no longer using it.

At least, that's my guess. Hope that helps. :D

Now, I just need to get the damn thing working on Linux - my old E172 worked a dream
