K3565 Rev2 - Issues With Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Hi
My dongle worked well on my MacBook and on my netbook (Windows). It still works on the netbook but not on my MacBook since I installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I've been on to Vodafone technical services and with their advice have successfully installed the latest software (3.04.11.00(12343)). I push the dongle into a USB slot, it dials up but then eventually hangs up. Where do I go from here? Help please!

Hi,

I have the same problem. I bought the K3565 internet stick this morning and i can't get it to work on my MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
It works perfect on Windows, but on my Mac it hangs up. I successfully installed the latest version of software (3.04.11.00) as well. What can I do?
Please help!

Hi guys,

Because these are Pay-as-you-Go modems, they use slightly different settings to our Contract Modems, which is what the downloadable version of Vodafone Mobile Connect will usually default to. For that reason, the first thing to check is which APN is in use when you're connecting.

Please make sure that if you're using the 1GB non-expiring plan, that you're using pp.internet as your APN, and if you're using the 3GB 30-day expiry plan, you'll need to use ppbundle.internet
The username and password for both APN's is web and web.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue for you :)

Hi Jon

Spot on! I'm now using my dongle to make this reply. Thanks for your prompt help.

I managed to connect with my dongle but I only switched from Manual connect to Automatic and it still doesn't connect at first, only from second try by itself. I tried the APN you provided but it's still the same. I have the 500 MB plan. I'm using in the Modem tab

Vendor: Generic
Model : GPRS(GSM/3G)
APN : pp.internet (tried "ppbundle.internet" also..same result)
CID : 1

I also downloaded the new software version v4.01.03.00

Thank you for your help and hope you can enlighten me if i'm still doing something wrong.

Hi sk8m,

It sounds like you're doing everything correctly. I'd just like to check though, so I'd recommend taking the following steps:

-Go to System Preferences > Network
-Ensure that the Huawei modem is selected on the right
-Ensure Configuration is set to Default
-Telephone number is *99#
-Account Name is web
-Password is web

Once these are in place then try connecting. Let me know how you get on :).

Hi George,

I tried those steps, I even reinstalled the VMB software and deleted and made another connection but it still doesn't want to connect unless I switch to Automatic and even then it doesn't connect the first time, only after it hangs up, and it kinda takes long to connect.
But I must be doing something wrong if it still connects the second time...
After it hangs up, it tells me to check the APN, user and password. Are there any other APNs that I can try? or should I be looking somewhere else?

Thank you,
sk8m

Hi sk8m,

The only APNs that are used with our PAYG modems are pp.internet (for the older ones) and ppbundle.internet (for the newer ones).

To be honest, I'm at a bit of a loss as to why this is happening, as it does eventually connect though I can't see this being a problem with the modem or the settings. I think the problem more likely lies with a software conflict somewhere on your Mac.
