I have a K3565 dongle non-expiring and it used to work well but in recent months I get a very poor to non-exisitent servcie. I get a signal connecction of good, very good or excellent but very often cannot get any emails through or even very small browsing. I have had the dongle for quite a few years and it used to work welll. I am trying to use the dongke on the Norfolk coast where I have no landline.Any clues please.

Hi there G3RIR,

Thanks for posting.

Could you possibly put the SIM from the dongle into a phone and try a browse a few web pages before returning the SIM to the dongle?

What's the postcode of the affected area, please?

Does this happen no matter where you go?

Cheers,

LeeH

I have tried putting the SIM in a phone (my Vodafone registered contract mobile in fact and putting it back in the dongle does seem to make it work for a while. But I can't keep doing that. I get a connected signal from the dongle of good, very good or excellent and it says it has internet access but it doesn't except occasionally. I have turned off pictures to minimise the tarffic but that doesn't help significantly. Why on earth can I get a good connection and saying internet access but I can't. I only use the dongle on the Norfolk Coast where I have a chalet but no phone line and need access to email and some browsing. The post code is NR12 0AP

Hi,

Could you access the internet and browse the web on the phone when you put the sim from the dongle in it?

If the phone based data service worked OK, but your laptop generally gives you a poor browsing experience then it's likely to be something to do with the laptop setup that's causing this, rather than a problem with the mobile network.

If you're using a windows system then a load of processes are loaded when windows starts up. Some of these are related to programs that will try and update (and therefore use bandwidth). It might be worth tyring a clean boot (instructions can be found here) as this will stop processes that will do this using up bandwidth and/or doing anything to your network traffic. If you do a clean boot and it improves things then you've established it's an applicaiton on your laptop making browsing poor. If you could le tus know if a clena boot makes any difference it would be great.

If, when you had the sim form the dongle in the phone, and browsing on the phone was also poor then this issue would look to be more network related. You can use the mobile broadband client to refresh your dongle on the network, either by perfoming a 2G 3G switch, although you need 3G coverage to do this (in VMB 10.X) clicking on:

- Advanced (if you're not already in advanced view)

- Click the devices tab

- Highlight the K3565

- Click on Bearer

- Select GPRS only

- Wait a moment

- Click on Bearer

- Select 3G preferred

If you're in an area that doesn't have a 3G signal then the above won't work and it would explain why you're getting slower data throughput. 2G is a much slower bearer, so if you're used to a 3G connection and now only picking up a 2G signal then you will notice a significant difference when web browsing. You can tell if you're only picking up a 2G signal as the light on the K3565 will be green.

You can tell what kind of signal is available in your location by checking the coverage map.

I hope that helps
