K3765-Z - "Searching for network" issue when trying to connect

Hi to all,

This is my first post on here and hoping that some of you guys might be able to help.

Ive had a PAYG Vodafone dongle now for about 2 months and it has been pretty relibale up to recently. I use it one both my laptop and PC because i dont have a fixed line access at the moment. It has been working fine on both computers until recently.
The main problem i have now is that 99% of the time, when i plug the dongle into my pc and enter the pin number VMC states it "searching for network" ??? I normally give this about ten minutes and then get frustated and then turn off my pc and restart and try again. Some time having to restart about 8 or more times to get the thing working and losing me valuable working time.
If i plug the dongle into the laptop it works first time with no trouble, so i'm sure its not a network issue.
The other problem i have is that sometimes the VMC desktop icon doesnt work, even from the start up menu. So i have to restart again!!

Ive got VMC 9.4.6.20529 on both and the modem is a K3765-Z.

Can anybody help because i really need the computers working because i need them for work and it can take 3 hours to get online!?!?!?!

Thanks

Hi Lucacharlie

Welcome to the eForum!:).
I can imagine how annoying it must be to have to keep re-starting the computer .
Have you managed to try welshrosco's suggestion yet? (Thanks :)).

Hi LucaCharlie,

As you have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem I would like to check that this has been done correctly, if you go into control pannel - administrative tools - computer management - device manager.

If you expnad all of the groups is the modem listed under modems an universal serial USB controllers?

If yes is ther a yellow or red icon next to it?

If yes it indicates that the instilation is missing some drivers/ components, simply click on the icon to find the drivers.

Hi, Thanks for your help so far. I have tried this and it has worked very well for the past couple of days. Until this morning when i turned it on. On start up, the desktop icon would open VMC from destop or the strat-up menu. So i restarted the pc and then VMC started ok but was back to "searching for network" i had 2 hours of trying to sort it, without success, going through the advice that you gave me previously. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it still didnt work and still couldnt connect.
It still connects first time if i transfer to Dongle to my laptop.
I unistalled and installed again and after restarting my computer for the 3 time after reinstalling - I CONNECTED!!!

I managed to get on to google but from then on the system was so slow and unusable. Couldnt connect to website without waiting for hwhat seems like hours.

Now though, ive struggled through and work as best i could and after about 30 mins of connection its working great! Pretty fast.

What can i do to ensure that i have no connection problems other than ditch vodafone and go for a more reliable service??

Thanks

Hi LucaCharlie,

Thank you for posting, I'm pleased to hear that your connection does now appear to be stable.

As it's working correctly, there's not a great deal I can advise, however in order to maintain a stable connection I'd recommend the following.

-Always disconnect in VMC before unplugging the modem/turning off your PC
-Always unplug the modem when it's not in use
-Ensure you plug the modem in after Windows has booted up
-Always use the same USB port.

If you follow those steps then you should find that the modem works without any issues.
