Hi guys,
Signed up to a one month contract mobile broadband dongle a couple of days ago and assumed it was 'plug-in and play' which has been successful so far.
I have a two bar connection which should be enough to connect me to the internet, right?
I connect successfully with a solid blue light on my dongle however in Windows when I check my network connections it says im completely connected but "no network access"
One of the reasons why I bought my dongle is because the coverage in my area is very good indoors and outdoors.
I'm fairly high up and im sitting right next to a window..
Do I need to do anything to activate it?
What can I do to get internet access?

When you open iexplorer what is your home page set to? What error message do you get if it can't find the page?
You could try the 'Diagnose connection' and see if that can sort it out for you - if you haven't already done so.

My homepage is set to Google and I use Chrome. It says "The page is not avaliable" then it goes on to explain the the DNS server cannot be found. I will send a printscreen of it soon.
I have already tried diagnosing the connection and it's throwing up "cannot find error" or "You are properly connected but the DNS server cannot be found"

This is sounding more like a firewall problem. But it could be Chrome as well. Do you stil have IE as well or Firefox?

Basically guys, I've given up with this dongle. It is not going to work and im just going to cancel my contract and find another supplier.
My friend let me borrow his dongle and it worked with no problems.

After wasintg HOURS on this issue I have managed to get mine working using the following ... I unstalled and uninstalled the vodafone softare first ....
Creating a Manual Dial Up Networking Connection on Windows 7:
In order to set up a manual dial up networking connection, first enter the initialisation command in the modem properties. This specifies the Access Point Name (APN) the device is going to connect to:
Go to Control Panel and select System (visible when viewing by Small or Large icons) and then Device Manager from the left hand menu
Expand the Modems heading and go into properties for the Vodafone Mobile Broadband modem
Go to the Advanced tab
Enter the initialisation command as AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”internet”
Click apply and ok
Once done create a new dial up networking connection as follows:
Start Menu / Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center / Set up a new connection or network
Choose “Connect to the Internet”
Ensure ”No, create a new connection” is selected and click Next
Click on ”Dial-Up”
Select the Vodafone Modem (if there are no other modems installed on the system you will not see this option).
Enter the Phone number: *99***1#
Username & Password = web & web
“Connection Name” = a name of your choosing.
Click “Connect” to complete and test the connection. Note: Please ensure Vodafone Mobile Connect/Vodafone Mobile Broadband is not running before attempting the connection.

Hi,
If creating a manual dial up connection worked, but the Vodafone software didn't then the most likely exlanation is that there's something a miss with the network adapter for the mobile braodband device, or that the Vodafone software has a problem addressing the network adapter.
As the Vodafone software connects via a network adapter, but a dial up connection uses a modem driver and com ports, you've, in a way, identified where the problem lies.
On Windows 7 you can connect using the network adapter without using the Vodafone software by opening the network and sharing center, then clicking on "change adapter settings" in the windows that opens you should see a "mobile broadband connection", if you right click on this and choose to connect, and it does so successfully, then the network adapter is Ok, and the problem lies with the Vodafone software addresing the network adapter. This might be due to another application tryin got address the network adapter. A clean boot (instructions here).
If connecting in the manner mentioned in the paragraph above doesn't work you could try uninstalling the mobile broadband network adapter from the control pannel and then doing actions > scan for hardware changes to reinstall it. If this allows you to connect via the method detailed in the paragraph above then the network adapter wasn'tm installed properly. If you still don't have any joy then it could, again, be a background application polling the network adapter and a clean boot may be a good test to identify this.

I've had this same issue on several computers now, various makes and all windows 7. It would seem that the vodafone software simply doesn't work on Windows 7
Even the connection that the vodafone software created didn't work!

The vodafone software does work on Windows 7.
I'm writing this on a Windows 7 machine, connected via the Vodafone software and a K3770 funnily enough.
If there was a universal issue with Mobile Broadband and Windows 7 then this forum would be covered in it and everyone trying to use Mobile Broadband on Windows 7 wouldn't be able to. Seeing as XP goes EOL soon, that would be a giant problem.
The issue you have is specific to the machines you're using. There's something they all have in common that's causing network adapter related issues.
What you're doing with the dial up networking connection is using different drivers to connect. The Vodafone software uses the Mobile Broadband Network Adapter (in the device manager) to conenct, but dial up networking uses a modem driver and com port (again, in the devide manager) to connect.
So if a dial up networking connection works, but the Mobile Broadband software doesn't then (as I mentioned in my previous post) either there's an issue with the Mobile Broadband Network Adapter (in the device manager) or the Vodafone software can't address the Mobile Broadband Network Adapter (in the device manager).
Does a clean boot (mentioned in previous post) make any difference?
If it does then there's an applciation trying to read the network adapter, which is preventing the Vodafone software from addressing it. This could be antivirus (see the symantec threads on here), a 3rd party conenction manager (HP and dell include this in their OEM build depending on hardware spec).
Does uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter fromthe device manager make any difference?
If it does then it's not getting installed properly in the first place.
form your mention of this happening on multiple machines my guess is that you may be part of an organisation that has a remote work force. If this is the case are you using the laptops out of the box or are you installing an image/standard build on the the laptops. If it's the latter it may well be soemthing in the standard build causing your problems.
What antivirus do you use?
Are any firewalls enabled on the computers (if so what)?
Are there any native conenction managers installed on the systems in question?
What specific error message do you get when you connect?
There are a lot of codependencies involved when using Mobile Broadband, and to say a dial up networking connection will fix all your problems and that the Vodafone software doesn't work on Windows 7 is a massive generalisation. To make this generalisation without diagnosis is a bit like going to a doctor complaining of a sore foot, and him cutting your leg off to stop the pain.
