K3805z - How do I get it to install on a Mac Powerbook?

I see someone else has had problems installing this new device on Windows. I can't get it to install on my Mac Powerbook. It asks me to load a CD, but a CD isn't supplied. I took it into the Vodafone shop and they didn't know what to do, but suggested downloading a driver from the Vodafone site - but I can't find one (only a page telling me how easy this is to install). I've never had problems with Vodafone USB devices before. Can anyone help? The Vodafone customer support people don't seem to be answering the phone.

Hi Neropa, and welcome! :P

Installing the software is easy (shame to hear you didn't get a CD with it). Just go and download our latest Vodafone Mobile Connect for Mac OS, reboot, and plug in your modem... job done! Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help, or if you're struggling with this still.

Have a good day :)

You make it sound so easy - and so it is a shame that this download doesn't work.

It looks exactly like the software for me previous device, the K3760, which I had no trouble with. I have uninstalled that software, and reloaded (both through the application that appears when I insert the K3805z (which at the end of the process advised me to install a CD) and by downloading the driver that you have just provided me with the link to.

After downloading, I got the usual connectivity box, but no option to "connect", which way greyed out. After a while I got a "device not responding message". The device is flashing green.

As I understand this is a much-improved device, it's a mystery why it isn't working.

Any more suggestions?

Hey again neropa,

Disappointing to read this :(

Can you tell me what version of Mac OS you're running? Just go to the Apple logo (top left) and click About This Mac... you probably already know this though.

Don't worry - can you try a manual connection instead perhaps? Just go to Network in System Preferences, and choose the modem (if it's not there, that will be another problem). Click connect here... any luck? Can you confirm the connection details?

Let us know how you fare this way. Worst case scenario, we'll need to look at a potential repair for the modem.

Apologies for the delay in replying.

I'm running OS 10.5.8 - and never had trouble with the previous Vodafone modems.

I've unistalled and reinstalled the software now several times. No luck with the "connect" button. Still greyed out every time.

The device is showing in the Network box, and it's worked! It allowed me to connect.

Do I have to go through this process every time with this device? It used to be so simple!

Many thanks for getting me working though.

Great news, Neropa!!! :D

Sadly, you will have to do this - it appears that there is some unseen conflict between the application and your Mac which I couldn't advise further on without having your machine in front of me. There is an even quicker way to connect though - just in this network section, tick 'Show Modem Status', and a little telephone icon will appear in your top menu bar. From now on, all you need to do to connect is tap this icon, and connect... two click process!

Let us know how you get on, and if you discover the solution to the application problem.
