Having had an m4 Xperia for several days...I'm no longer able to cope with zero memory. Just 4 apps filled it up. It either has to be returned under not fit for purpose or it needs marshmallow.
Does anyone know if marshmallow is due for the vf Xperia m4?
Thanks all

Hi

Which internal memory model do you have.

I think they come in 8gb and 16gb but take into account some of that is held back for the phones Os.

If you have a Sd card try moving all the data you can to it and have a spring clean to remove old unwanted or rarely used stuff such as music , pictures, videos, email, sms etc

I maybe wrong but I'm not sure how a firmware update will help with internal space.

Apart from a factory reset after updating which removes redundant files.

Marshmallow is supposed to be able to allow the sd card to act as internal memory.
Thus getting around the fact that Sony have sold a phone with nearly no memory.
I guess Vodafone have just one student working on marshmallow for the M4.

Just can't see how you can advertise an item as 8gb. Fill it with an os, loads of other useless rubbish, then you update all that rubbish out of the box then you're left with 1gb to use. That is just wrong.

I use the 16gb iPhone 6 Plus.

I have approximately 13gb of user storage as the rest is taken up with iOS. It's not just Sony and has been a topic of discussion for a long time. I agree with the discussion that it shouldn't say 16gb on the box but instead should say 13gb.

That said the os etc shouldn't be taking up your user available memory which I guess is around 6gb'ish. What's the other "useless Rubbish" you speak if taking up memory?

Yes, you can use an sd card as internal memory in Marshmallow.  I saw somewhere that MM is coming to Sony devices from March, but I'm not sure which ones will get it and in what order.

8gb is no longer really a practical amout of memory.  Although the OS take up about the same space, it does creep and, more to the point, apps are getting bigger as they offer more and more content and facilities.   As bandofbrothers says, 16gb is reckoned to be barely adequate for an iPhone.

All that said, I had a Vodafone Smart 4 (8gb) for a while last year and managed to pack quite a lot onto it.   It was already incorporating the (small) sd card into its memory pool, so was using it automatically for app data.  I also kept photos and other files on it, but didn't transfer any of 20 or so apps.

The other issue you might have is finding enough space for the OS upgrade if/when it comes.   If you're really not happy, I'd be inclined to swap it for something else if you can.   16gb of storage is desirable (with an sd card slot) and more than 1gb of RAM, too, though that tends to be the preserve of considerably more expensive devices.

Hi, Vodafone don't announce when firmware will be rolled out, no one will know until the update appears on their phone.

Can you tell if it's been pushed out to sim free UK phones? At least then you'd know that vodaphone might have it
