Solution

Major Usb Dongle Problem

My USB Modem Stick Pro just arrived. I was estatic. So...I plugged it in, installed the VMClite from the drive and installed everything.

BIG problem though, I get a 'No Devices' message shown. I've tried restarting, re-installing, updating etc (even uninstalling PowerISO) and yet the problem remains.

Something I have noticed...in Computer (I am using VISTA), the USB dongle stick shows as CD Drive (H:) VMC Lite (and then the version number) which seems odd - shouldn't it be shown up as a USB device or something else ?

Well anyway. PLEASE help.

Thanks. I need to get it sorted fairly soon though...I have to go somewhere and will be using the dongle a lot on Monday.

If you're within the initial 14 day period, then send it back asap and cancel the contract. Seriously, if you're having problems now then it won't get any better and Vodafone will not let you get out of the contract despite not providing a service to you. Customer service is next to none existant - I live in central London and can't hold a signal for more than about 10 minutes with the fastest speeds being about 15kbps - but Vodafone still say that there's no problem. It's a joke.

Indeed. I DID get the problem sorted...thought the area I live in doesn't have 3G - so I have to just use extremely slow GPRS for now. I don't mind as I have Virgin Broadband DSL line. Just thought it would be useful whenever needing to go to relatives' houses. Never mind. I'll stay. Only need emails really anyway.

Very disappointing though.

There was a problem with what XPn thought the device is - it thought it was a CD ROM and not a modem. That's finally sorted but I can't put my computer to sleep or put it on hibernate as when I start the compter back up...it shows (again) as "No Device" in the mobile connect software, and I have to restart. Which is a sshame. But I can mcope with that.

It's a problem with whatever is the equivalent of usb-modeswitch - the device first mounts as a SCSI device, to load the software, and then should dismount and remount as a modem - however, this operation is failing.

Yep. That kinda sums it up.
