Thanks, @thesoupdragon. One of my devices managed to do its initial upload at original quality and I didn't think I'd selected that manually, but I wouldn't want to say definitely that I didn't :smileywink:.
I read somewhere that there's a beta version of the Photos app about that allows you to downgrade original quality uploads to high quality. No sign of it in the main app yet, but one to look for.

Google quietly changed the quality option at the same time as separating google photos from G+.
I've not heard about that beta version so I'll keep an eye open for that. 😊

I've started to archive my DVD collection to .mp4 format. If you rip your DVD and copy it to your photos folder on your phone/tablet, google will upload it without using any of your Drive allowance. 😉

@thesoupdragon Ah. I didn't start using it until after that, so I must have mucked up my setup. :smileymad: Sorry, can't remember where I read that beta thing, or how to find it.
Good idea about the DVDs. I probably won't do it, but I'm sure a lot of people would want to. (Another argument for a private copy right).
