Memory issue when viewing pics?

I have an issue that has occured on my current phone (VF V8) and my previous Note 4 which is realy annoying. When flicking through pics on say Drive or Twitter I can flick through a dozen or so pics before all I get is a grey/brown square with no picture in it. I then have to exit the app and go back into it to carry on viewing the pics and then after a dozen or so pics it hapens again.

If I click on a thumbnail and go into a pic then back out back to the thumbnail screen it doesn't happen, only when I enlarge one pic and them swipe through them continously.

I imagine it's some sort of RAM/Cache issue but can nayone shed any light on if that is the case and whatever the cause is, if there is a solution?

If it's not happening on the local gallery, I think we can exclude resources as the images would make the same demands (without the download factor).   It's possible that there's a caching issue even with a connection as fast as you're getting and it's also possible that the apps only pre-cache a certain amount regardless of resources and space.  If you have time, it would be interesting if you could try the Google Photos app as you can let it populate fully before viewing.   That app can also back photos up to Google in what they call "hi res" format, which is slightly compressed and doesn't count towards your usage allowance - meaning you can keep everything forever.   Check the settings menu to choose this.

I'm slightly inclined to discount an internal memory issue if it was happening on a Note 4 which, as far as I know, was not short on resources.   I have seen galleries slow up on online sites and it may be a connection issue - you're going through the gallery faster than data can download.  The slower the connection, the sooner it happens.  If you wait a bit, does the gallery catch up?   Do you get the same problem when looking at photos that are on the device itself?   Do you notice a difference between a good wifi connection with fast transfer and mobile data (and between 2, 3 & 4 G)?

If it's an app cache thing, it would be worth seeing if you can increase the size in its settings (I'm not sure).  You may also be able to see how much of the app cache is being used (some will show a percentage - if it's substantially less than 100, that's probably not the problem).  Also, when you refer to Drive, are you using it direct, or Google Photos (which is a separate app).  That's optimised for pictures and may have better performance.   If you wait until it's fully populated, you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks,

it doesn't do it when flicking through photos on the device (eg gallery) just when viewing online.

I was referring to Google Drive as opposed to photos but whatever app it happens on it never seems to "catch up" once the issue occurs, although I must admit I've not left it for more than about 30 secs so I might try that.

It happens when using my VF BB at home (up to 76MB but usually 25-30) and also on 4G (at work at present it's about 5MB). The V8 has 2.8GB of RAM, pretty much the same as the Note 4 at 3GB so it's not sluggish, so going by your comments I reckon it's me swiping faster than the photos can download.

I'l go slower and wait longer for the "catch up" next time.

 Cheers

I had the same issue again at home and it does appear that the slower I scroll through the photos the more I can see before the issue occurs and if I wait for 30 secs or so the blank photos load and I can cary on.

I did also notice when using Drive, if I let the thumbnails in a folder all load I can scroll through the entire folder with no issues, so it does apear that the cause is me scrolling faster than the photos can load.

Cheers
