Is the SIM card in the right way round? Even in a poor area should get green light flashing. If SIM is in, take it back, could be busted dongle. Should also have 7 days to change your mind.

Hi Florathecat, welcome to the eForum!
As jarviser suggested, an incorrectly seated SIM is the most common cause of a red light on the modem, albeit usually a solid light, so checking the SIM was in correctly in was certainly worthwhile. If possible, can you pop it out and give the SIM a quick wipe with a soft dry cloth to see if there's anything like dirt getting in the way?
Can you also confirm the model of the dongle and the age of the SIM for me, just so we're looking in the correct place.?
The other possible cause for the red light is that the modem is looking for a network to connect to, so we'll check that out as well.
Looking at the map and using your profile's postcode as a guide, 2G is certainly excellent coverage, whilst 3G is also available, albeit extremely variable at this exact location - To the east it's strong, to the west it's outdoor strength. Can you confirm which type of signal the VMC software shows as trying to connect to?
My system for checking local cells for issues is down at the moment, but we've had no faults in the immediate area reported. Has this been going on for a while or have you never been able to connect from home?
Can you also advise whether the VMC software shows any possible available networks when in this location? If it shows Vodafone 2G and 3G then it is detecting that they are present, so the issue lies not with the presence but the connection. This can be helped by removing all connections listed except for the Vodafone 3G option and trying again, as this can remove any conflicts.
Also, do you get any error message off the VMC software at all when trying to connect? It may be that the software is stopping the modem from connecting, and different error messages can point towards different issues.
Please get back to us - the answers to these questions will give us a much better idea of the issue at hand.
Kind regards
DaveN

Hi S,
As there are no networks showing it would indicate a possible network issue, so we can look into this please can you post us your postcode and we will then be able to advise you further, also is the dongle PAYT or Contract and if PAYT does it have credit?

Hi Florathecat,
Looking at the home postcode, there does appear to be some work currently taking place at one of the local cells (ref 2095091).
I can't give a timescale on this, but rest assured we'll be looking to get this sorted as quickly as we can.
