Solution

Mobile Broadband - Requirement of VMC

Hi,

I'm still having issues with VMC using Windows 7 Professional x64. My question is can I use the modem without installing VMC?

Can I just set up a dial up networking connection to bypass it?

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter Jamieson

Thanks for your post here. I can appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

There are absolutely no reasons why you cannot use the networking connection in windows rather than the VMC software.

You will just need the APN information which is :-

APN - Internet
Username - web
password - web
Dial up number - *99#

If you are having problems with your VMC client then why not download the most up to date version if you haven't already as this has been known to fix most issues with Windows 7. - Vodafone Mobile Connect

Please let me know how you get on and if you have any further questions just give me a shout

Thanks

Thanks Wayne,

Where can I get the drivers from for the dongle, doesn't seem to be freely downloadable from anywhere trustworthy?

Hi Peter Jamieson

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems with this. I can totally appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

The device drivers for the modem are contained within the software that you download. Can you try downloading a previous version of the software (using the 'previous versions' tab on the original link I have provided)

If this doesn't work then I would suggest restarting your PC, wait for your PC to turn on then plug the modem into a different USB port than what you normally do, wait for 5 minutes then try again. If this doesn't work unplug the modem, wait 1 minute then plug the modem into a different port again and wait.

Please let me know how you go on and if you have any further questions we'll be more than happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Customers considering this way of working should be aware that bypassing VMC means that VMC won't keep track of your usage - VMC doesn't recognise connections made direct from Windows - as I type this, I have the "Main View" on display and it's still offering the "Connect" button.

If like me you don't rely on the dashboard etc to track your usage then it's not an issue, but it seemed worth the mention.

I'm still on good ol' XP Pro so I can't comment on the Windows 7 issues.
