Mobile Broadband Versus Outlook 2007!

Dave McCormick
Not applicable
I have a new pay as you go Vodafone Broadband. At hole my laptop connects via a wireless router. The internet works fine on the new mobile broadband. Also, I can recieve e-mail on all my accounts. However I have a primary talktalk account and I can not send e-mail on that using the mobile broadband. I have spoken to talktalk and they tell me that I need settings for Outlook 2007 from Vodafone. I can find nothing in the paperwork that came with the dongle and the Vodafone shop could not help (although they had previous cases of the problem). Any ideas?

PS - I am a bit of a computer ludite so make it simple step-by-step stuff!

Hi Dave McCormick and welcome to the eForum

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with this.

All you need to do is change the outgoing mail server on Outlook to 'send.vodafone.net' You will then be able to send emails.

Give this a try and let me know how you get on

Heres the Microsoft webpage that will show you how to get this set up - Microsoft

Thanks

Thanks Wayne. I set that up and initially it worked but when I tried to send an e-mail, I got the following message:

Task 'dave.mccormick@talktalk.net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC80) : 'None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.'

Also, I assume that I will need to reset the outgoing mail server when I am at home and using my wireless connection?!?

Hi Dave,

Yes, you'll indeed need to change your outgoing servers when in/out of wifi range - an ache, I know, but this results from the fact that the TalkTalk mail server isn't recognizing mail sent from a mobile device. Your options will be either to change your Outing Mail Server to send.vodafone.net, unauthenticated (no username or password), or sign up for a free GMail account and use GMail's outgoing.

At home, you would then need to revert back to your TalkTalk one, or just leave the GMail in place for both (if you're happy to do that of course).

Keep us updated with how you get on, and please ask if you run into further problems!
