Mobile Broadband - Which COM Port should the modem use?

Hi

Out of interest, what COM number should the Vodafone dongle sit on in Windows 7

When I was having problems with VMC as a result of the E272 becoming faulty, and when the Nokia 2760 was bluetoothing as a modem to VMC - the device list would say connection No 2, No 3 and finally got to No 5 in the end.

My Question is
Would Windows 7 be creating COM links, because Vodafone software failed to connect the modem to the same place every time?

I now sucessfuly use VMBL and K3570-Z, but note that the modem is on COM 35, 36 and 37

Hi Mark Ellis 62

Unfortunately this isn’t really my area of expertise however I will pass your question onto one of our more advanced technical members of the team to look into this for you in the morning.

Hello Mark and thanks for posting

The actual COM port doesn't always matter and can be automatically assigned by the Operating System according to what other devices are in action on the PC.

One thing you could do is look to see what ports your modem/s is/are assigned to your device as follows:

1. Start

2. Control Panel

3. Phone and Modem

4. Advanced tab

5. You can remove any duplicated instances of HUWEI or GLOBETROTTER here, or all modems so you can re-ad afresh upon your reboot.

Thanks

Thanks Reidar

I did that and removed all the modems, but sadly it didn't help my internet speed.

It just seems funny that Windows 7 has stuck the dongle on Com 35, 36 and 37

Thanks again

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting. In regards to internet speed, the number of the COM port that the modem is attached to won't make any difference. The modem could be connected to any COM port number as long as it doesn't conflict with another one.

I know that you're still experiencing connection speed issues and have emailed you regarding this.
