NO access to rblr.co.uk

4: Newbie

4 weeks, numerous tweets, ongoing conversation on farsebook.  Lost count of the live chats and phone calls i have made.

I still cannot get to the Royal British Legion Riders Websites:-

rblr.co.uk

forum.rblr.co.uk

riders-mail.com

I am convinced it is a DNS / rDNS issue. but have so far not managed to convince VF of this.

Please could I ask folks using VF Home Broadband to test and post results / location... As I am aware of a n other member who is unable to access from another part of the country. Would like to show it is NOT location based.

It works fine from VF 4G and any other provider I try when connecting at neighbours and friends, even in McDonalds.

I did locate this thread, but not sure if it is related http://tinyurl.com/ybhgyudf

Hi @bradshawd, I'm sorry to see you've been experiencing problems accessing these sites.

So we can get to the bottom of this for you, I've passed this on to our specialists who will be able to investigate this further.

Once we have any updates from the team, we'll be sure to pop these on to the thread for you.

The sites work ok here.  It is a dns issue.  I have changed my dns server settings to the comodo addresses in my router.  You can either change them in router or per device.   I find that router is better.  There are several dns servers around to use for free.  Stick to the big ones  for more security and reliability and you will avoid Vodafones restrictions on their own domain name service

@bradshawd So we can take a closer look into this, I've sent you a private message with details on how you can get in touch with our designated team.

Please can you also reply to this post with a screen shot of the messages you're seeing, when trying to access the websites.

Well after 4 weeks of this I am still unable to access those sites from Vodafone Home Broadband.  Blow me down I have now had a text telling me that the issue has been closed.

Please, this is now starting to stress me out, can you get somebody to call me regarding fault ref: FLT08387266.

Derek

As stated earlier, the easy way to cure this is to change your dns settings away from Vodafone and use a third party.  If you google how to do it you will find its remarkably easy either in your router or per device.  You willl then be able to reach all of those sites without restriction

Hi bradshawd,

I hope you don't mind someone else’s two penneth?

As I'm new on the Vodafone network, out of interest I thought I'd see if I could reach rblr.co.uk site - straight there, no issues.

Then I remembered I should try with my Virtual private network software turned off, (this circumvents Vodafone’s DNS)

Tried again -  still got to the website.

I thought, perhaps as the PC has got there it would remember how to get there (I'm not sure how the Content Control work ) ?  So, I fired up my old laptop which until today was unaware of the Vodafone network.  Before I went onto the internet I added the Vodafone DNS addresses into the laptop's properties.

I tried to get to rblr.co.uk - Failed.  I was redirected to:

Vodafone Content Control setting pageVodafone Content Control setting page

Once I had 'applied' the settings I was able to view rblr.co.uk.

I can only tell you of my experience, on my tiny part of the Vodafone broadband network. For me DNS does not seem to be the problem, but the Content Control caused a hiccup. Are your Content Control setting up at Super-safe or ultra-safe?  Perhaps for some reason the ‘rblr’ content is tripping alarms in the Content Control? In the past a friend had trouble doing a search for Penistone and for that matter Scunthorpe also failed (different network / different content control BTW), both legitimate town names 😄

As JohnJ suggested, is it possible to add a screenshot of what happens when you attempt to reach the various 'rblr' sites?  And as rollers suggested, using alternative DNS servers would bypass Vodafone's DNS and ‘may’ solve the problem.  For example, Google's DNS IP details are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, other DNS IP addresses are available 😉

Let us knowhow you get on
