All neighbours have same problem

yes. Phone rebooted. As per instructions.

I have either no service or 1 bar

We only have 2g here

permanent. Spoke to Vodafone this morning to be told no problems in area and no probs with transmitter. I've have Vodafone here. for 11 years and never had a problem before.

Looking at your postcode in the Vodafone Network Checker your local and surrounding masts are not showing any reported issues.
However it does show that your in a fringe coverage area.
Weather conditions, trees (growing foliage) , new buildings or extensions to buildings and population growth all can impact on Signal.
