Hi
Just received my SureSignal (after waiting forever! - annoying as an ex-Vf base Station Engineer that there's a dead spot apparently centrered on my work-from-home desk!) but it doesn't seem to be too happy.
It's the all-in-one plug in unit. The red power light is on, the Internet light is flashing but nothing else.
I registered it online and the dashboard is reporting as registered. (number removed for security)
Any ideas good folk?

Hi Duncan,
Firstly, you shouldn't publish your phone number on here. One of the forum guys will probably edit it out of your message.
These devices take their time becoming live, and don't always conform to their plug 'n play description.
You can do the following while you wait:
Verify that your VSS device is being issued with an IP address.
Place that IP address into your router's DMZ (actually there's a list of ports that need to be verified as being open but this is quicker).
Do the following diagnostics and post them back here (you'll be asked to do this by a Vodafone tech person, so you can gain a little time by doing it now -
VSS Traceroute command
That should cover it for now.

The VSS was being assigned 192.168.0.38, I've now put that device in the DMZ. I'm running a BT Branded 2-wire router (although my ISP is not BT. It was a spare router I had kicking around from my time running an IT Support workshop). The router's reporting around 13MBps speed.

Observing similar behaviours in the past, one of the Voda tech people will probably arrange a resync for you.
After they perform the resync, they ask you to reset the VSS as per the following:
The VSS will now try to contact the network and download its profile. This may take anything up to 6 hours. [1]
[1] Also known as 24 hours. 😉
Anyway, I think that's about all the preparation you can do so keep an eye on things here until you see a response from one of the forum techs.
If you've set up notifications, the forum software will email you whenever a thread you're posting to gets a response.

Well whaddya know!?
I just looked down the side of the desk and thought "Well goodness, gracious me" [This may not be quite an exact representation] "There's an extra light come on."
And indeed, it's now working - full signal strength and the final light comes on when making a call.
Looks good to me - many thanks for your help Peter, much appreciated. I suspect it was the DMZ that did the trick - I take it they're pernickerty devices when it comes to port requirements then?

Firstly, many thanks to allegoricus for his assistance, he’s obviously pointed you in the right direction. Sure Signals can take up to 24 hours to set up, and the flashing internet light tends to indicate it’s downloading a profile from our servers.
