I've had this phone for 2 years and no issues

Now I get a '!' by the phone signal. If I switch on wifi and connect, then the warning goes. If not on Wifi, I can only get phone calls and no data.

This is not a location issue as I've been to London and Milton keynes and still unable to get data.

Running 5.1.1

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi

Process of elimination: Can U try ure Sim in another phone2 rule out either the Sim or Phone which may be at fault.

Can you try texting WEB to 40127 just incase its your APN's at fault.

Help FAQs http://support.vodafone.co.uk/Internet/Connecting-to-the-internet-on-your-phone/

If your sim works in another phone fine then you may have to let either Vodafone take a look at the phone or the manufacturer. I suggest the latter.

If your sim does not work as it should in another phone that you know works fine then you may need a new SIM card. Any Vodafone HighStreet store can perform a sim swap. Take some ID to prove your identity.

The first thing would be to check that mobile data hasn't got switched off by mistake.  You could also text WEB to 40127, which should get the APN settings sent to the device.  If it was working before, it should still be working, but there's a small possibility the settings file has got corrupted, so it's worth a try. You could also go into Settings|Mobile Networks and select one other than Vodafone.  After a few minutes, reverse the procedure, forcing a refresh - though I'd expect the problem to involve more than data for that to work, tbh.

If you've recently done a firmware update, it would be worth doing a factory reset (don't forget to make sure youre contacts and calendar are fully sync'd and back up your content first).  Resetting clears out any bits of the old code that are haning about and confusing the system.   However, before taking that step, I'd also try a new SIM.   You can get one sent by post, but thre quickest route is from a Vodafone shop, who can also activate it for you.

Can you also check that 'Mobile Data ' is turned on in your phones settings.

Hi, I'm having the same problem.. I've tried sending WEB to 40127 and got the message however it says I have to manually enter the settings.

When I try to do this I cannot find the Nexus 4 on the list of devices, vodafone says choose the closest type but there isn't anything!!

Can anyone advise how to get around this as it's very frustrating!!

Hi Cemmyz

The closest device I can find for you is the LG G3.  The instructions on how to set up internet on the device can be found here.  They will be similar to those for the Nexus but not 100% the same - there will be some menu differences.  The most important part is to enter the settings correctly.

Thanks to both, that seems to have fixed it.

On a possible related note - literally in the last few days the wifi connection keeps dropping as well. The laptop and my wife's phone both work fine on the home network.

In fact just testing it now it seems that when I try to connect with both wifi and data the wifi cuts the data connection

Hi again

To narrow down the issue, it may be worth doing a factory reset of the device as WiFi issues could be firmware or hardware related.  This will wipe the data so please back it up first.
