No 2G toggle still after ios8.1 upgrade

Hello,

Following the recent ios 8.1 upgrade the toggle to disable 3g/ enable 2g or edge should be visable, but it is not.

I had this option on my iphone 5 using the same vodafone simcard so maybe its not a vodafone issue but an apple issue.

I spoke with Apple and they are saying to speak to my carrier.

Any help please?

Its really useful to disable 3G when in a poor network coverage area.

Thanks! :Smiling:

That page you point to actually shows the options we want Vodafone to enable on the carrier settings. You can clearly see the selection of 2G/3G/4G as an option tick box ....so it is not an apple issue.

Yes you can see them but the page says if your carrier has 4G you wont get that option, only if your carrier is yet to roll out 4G?

@63johnw

There is so much debate over this, but the carrier CAN choose this 2G toggle setting.

What you are saying is the default settings from Apple.

We are asking for Voda to modify the default settings - or explain why not. I can't think of a valid reason not to allow us the 2G toggle.

I manually modify my own carrier settings using iFile and the 2G toggle works fine. Just each time I reboot, I need to do it again, because it isn't permanent.

I understand what you guys are saying and understand what you want, the reasons you want it and totally agree you should have it, it is a very backward step, but from things I have read and been told its an apple decision/problem. (And no I don't work fro Vodafone).

Really hope you get sorted, but as well as posting on here are any of you raising this with apple to see what they say?

I will step out now unless I get anything that will help.

This matter has been raised with Apple and thy say that they give carriers the options to either allow or remove the 2G option.

I am at the moment in Thailand where I use the DTAC network (AIS network is the same) and am using an unlocked iPhone 5s. I have the top toggle which offers either 2G or 3G and a second toggle which enables or disables 4G. These are with the latest carrier setting for the network so both of these Thai networks have decided to give their customers the 2G option although both also offer (limited) 4G.

I also played with a demo 6s in the Apple store in Pattaya on the DTAC network and that also has the 2G / 3G option. As you say it is (technically) a backward step but far less backward than a major network deciding that many of its customers will not be able to use their phones under certain conditions dictated by the network when technically all it requires is for the network to push out a carrier update.

I just came back from Holidays from India .I used vodafone indian sim  & used  iphone 6 .I did get the option to switch between 2g/3g/4g with this sim

Now i have switch back to Vodafone UK sim this option has gone & now i have to JB the phone to get this option

Because my phone is JB i cannot use barclays app as they dont let use their app on JB mobiles

This all probems will be  sorted IF vodafone UK was kind enough to update the carrier settings & give us the option to switch between 2g/3g/4g

It is so frustrating to hear all these comments from vodafone UK customers!

PLEASE DO HELP BRING THIS THREAD TO THE ATTENTION OF MANAGEMENT

Ditto re Barclays and Barclaycard App and Jailbreak - not compatible.

Yeah that's the annoying thing about Jailbreaking, the Barclays app doesn't work! Or the Virgin Media App to stream live.

There's a patch on Cydia called xCon that fools these apps into thinking the phone isn't jailbroken but the Barclays app isn't currently supported

If Vodafone made this simple carrier update I could remove this Jailbreak!!

I think we all need to clog up their phone lines in the new year demanding this gets sorted. Clearly posting here is having zero affect.

You need a reliable phone signal to be able to call them though...
