“Not registered on Network”

I have a Vodafone contract, using a Samsung Galaxy S5

15 days ago my phone suddenly started giving me an error “Not registered on Network”

So I went through all the troubleshooting steps I could think of:

  • Reboot soft (reboot via menu) – Same error
  • Reboot hard (turn off remove SIM and battery for over 5 mins) – Same error
  • Change the Network Mode to GSM only – Same error
  • Try to connect to a different provider network – Same error
  • Clean SIM – Same error
  • Press SIM in holder – Same error
  • Replace SIM (SIM swap) – Same error
  • Repeat all items above – Same error
  • Add contacts to SIM (prove SIM is writable) – Same error
  • Factory reset of phone – Same error
  • Try another (different number) Vodafone SIM in phone – connected to network and able to make calls etc.
  • Try my SIM in a different phone – connected to network and able to make calls etc.
  • Try connecting in different Cities (could have been a mast issue {clutching at straws}) – Same error
  • Spend 5 hours over 7 calls with Vodafone being told that they will call me when it is fixed (super customer support!) with them telling me this is a mast issue

From the above we know:

  • The issue is not the SIM as we can use it in another phone
  • The issue is not the phone as another SIM (on same network) works in phone
  • It is not a network (mast) issue as I have tried connecting in other cities and my SIM works in another phone

I’m now 15 days and counting without being able to use my SIM in my phone.

Does anyone out there have any ideas on what I need to do next?

Hi

You certainly seem to have tried most of the self help generic tips.

I'm wondering if it would help to ask Customer Services to reset your account ?

I've googled and a few hits return with possible resolutions.

One is (Do This at your own risk)

Step 1:

First go to Settings.

Step 2:

Then go to Wireless and networks.

Step 3:

Tap the Mobile Networks.

Step 4:

Now Press the Power Button and Home Button for 15 Seconds. Your Smartphone automatically blink with black screen, don’t worry about it, it’s safe.

Step 5:

After some seconds, your phone will automatically reboot. That’s It, problem solved.

"A simple trick which worked for me earlier was to Put your device on Airplane mode and make a Phone call from your device and you will be asked to Turn Off Flight Mode to make a call and you have to Tap on OK or Yes and then you will be able to see your Network on your device."
