Note 8 WiFi Calling unusable

I have just taken a software update on my Note 8 (build number NMF26X.N950FXXU1AQI1) and WiFi calling sprung into action. Great I thought. However, the feeling soon wore off. I work in a building with a very poor VF signal so I would love to use WiFi calling but as I walk around the building whenever the WiFi calling kicks in, I get a notification to say that it's activated. An hour later I managed to mute the Android IMS service so at least my colleagues stopped complaining about the constant noise, but it appears to be impossible to stop the notifications from being generated.

Then I went to an area in the building with a signal and got the VF 'You appear to have changed your sim card' text message, followed by another text message with the CP settings in. I have tested this and it's clear every time WiFi calling kicks in I get the notifications and whenever the signal improves I get the 2 x text messages. Unless I turn the phone onto silent I can't get away from the noise/vibrations constantly going off and having a silent phone means I miss the actual work related messages!

The only answer is to turn off the WiFi calling until this is fixed.

Update on this problem.

After turning off the WiFi calling it got rid of the notifications related to it being enabled, but I continued to receive at horribly regular intervals text messages from VF and settings texts. In desperation I rang 191 and managed to speak to a knowledgeable engineer. He told me that my number was 'stuck' in a server which was repeatedly sending the config messages which he then fixed.

Feeling encouraged I asked about the WiFi calling and was told that there are notifications sent from VF to the handset every time WiFi calling kicks in (why????) so he switched these off. I turned WiFi calling back on and blissful silence ensued.

So, to get this to work you need to:

1. Long press on the notification on the WiFi calling notification on the handset and change it to silent notifications (to stop the alert from the handset).

2. Ring 191 and get the notification sent from VF disabled.

3. I would also suggest you stop the notification appearing on the lock screen unless you enjoy seeing it. To do this go into settings>notifications>advanced (top right corner)><menu (3 dots in top right corner) and select "Show system apps". Scroll down to IMS Service, touch it and then set "On lock screen" to "Do not show notifications". My IMS Service is also set to "Muted" but I can't manage to find out how to reset this as it was done when trying to get rid of the noises and that option no longer appears!
