Nougat update for HTC M9

simonmurray
4: Newbie

My phone hasn't had the OTA update yet.
It has Android 6.0, Sense 7.0 and Software 3.35.401.32.

I am with Vodafone UK, but purchased this handset separately.

How can I tell if my phone is setup by Vodafone handset?

I have seen the file online ~1.9GB.

Can I downlaod and install it myself?

If I do it will it be ok, or will I brick it?

No sign of any update for the m9 yet! @hrym
According to HTC Elevate it was supposed to be released in February but as
yet they haven't updated the news, so...?

Oh no... That's not good!
Did you do a factory reset after the update?

It's not usually needed with an interim version update but this is a big version upgrade so I would personally reset after the update.
Might be worth a try...

TSD.

No, have not done factory resest.....I refrain from this due to the huge amount of work and data back-up to be done....the last thing I want to do. I understand the possible benefit.

Can you recommened a quick way to do it, backing up everything?

My up-to-date list of issues:

  1. Facebook - many pauses & crashes, and loss of use of new reaction symbols!
  2. Calling / dialing fail, it takes so long to initiate, and appears many seconds later and either calls or ends call itself!!!
  3. Several other app crashes
  4. Generally very laggy at times.
  5. One serious over heating issue, when only browsing the net for a few minutes, and suffered serious battery drain, and regularly gets warm, both never experienced on this phone to date.

If you use Google Photos, that will sync and backup all your photos.
SMSBackup+ is an app that will back up all your text messages and call logs.
Google Drive can backup any other documents.
Also you can set the phone to sync contacts with Gmail.

Google Play will auto download your Apps as long as you have the Google account set to sync etc...

I think a factory reset is a very real consideration for you, seeing as you have so many issues.

I do this after every update but that's just me... Lol

TSD.

I undertsand that I should consider it, maybe try it over the weekend.

I back up using those anyway, incl. SMS.

Its just the hassle of re-signing into everything too, and my apps in folders layouts, and more I can't remember....

I know what you mean.   I had to reset a device recently and it takes quite a while to set everything up again.   Anything to do with Google will be sync'd and backed up and your settings should be restored, but you'll usually lose them for 3rd party apps, as well as saved data (which technically you can back up, but it can be tricky digging for it).   However, the issues you're experiencing all point to the need for a reset, I'm afraid. :smileysad:

I presume this update was pushed to your phone and you didn't find it somewhere else and sideload it?   (Apologies for asking/hinting, but it would make a huge difference).

Thanks, pushed!

I got the Android 7 (Nougat) update yesterday.

I did a full Reset afterwards and everything is working perfectly. I really like the double app view.

Did you need to do a reset, @thesoupdragon, or did you just do one as a precaution?  I can see I have the updated, but haven't installed it yet.

There was NO NEED to do a Factory Reset, it's just something I have always done after a major version update. It's more of a preventative measure as it stops any incompatibility issues from outdated settings.

If you don't reset but find a few glitches then you'll know what needs to be done. 😉
