PAC Transfer to Vodafone

I've got an existing Vodafone contract (soon coming to an end) and I've just bought a new phone on a new Vodafone contract.

I want to port my existing phone number over to the new phone.  How do I do this?  Can I use a Vodafone PAC to port into Vodafone?

Hi @Chippy_boy

This is not going to be quick. Ideally, you should have taken an upgrade direct with Vodafone using the same number and not a new contract.

You won't be able to port Vodafone to Vodafone and this will mean having to cancel the previous contract and ask Vodafone to put the number on PAYG as a temporary measure.  As you have to give 30 days notice, this will take 30 days to complete, after which time you will be able to transfer the PAYG number to the new contract.

Alternatively, ask Vodafone for a PAC code and port out of Vodafone on PAYG and ask the new provider for a PAC code and port back in on the new contract.

Thanks for your helpful reply.

It seems Vodafone make it easier for me to buy my new phone on EE and then I could save all this hassle!  It was a ##~## up between Voda and EE for my new phone, and this doesn't help!

Regards the upgrade, that was not an option - it's a Samsung Note7 and the only option is to cancel your contract.  Carphone Warehouse give me little, actually zero, confidence that they can cancel my existing Vodafone contract and at the same time provide me with a PAC code and not lose my number, which is one of the reasons I've held off for so long.

I was hoping with 2 active Vodafone contracts, I might have been able to swap the numbers between the 2, but it seems that's not possible either 😞

Hi @Chippy_boy

Carphone Warehouse should have sold you an upgrade.  Unfortunately, this is one thing a third party tries to do, the commission received for selling a new contract and number is more lucrative than selling an upgrade.

If Carphone had sold an upgrade, and this is something they can do, it would have saved you a lot of trouble.

Perhaps, but I didn't get the new phone from CPW.  The deals available on the open market for new phones are much better than any of the upgrade options.

Plus the fact, the deal Samsung have with Vodafone is that Note7 owners can cancel their contracts mid-term, OR swap for an S7 Edge.  Those are the only two choices.  And since I don't want an S7E, cancelling is the only option.

Hey Chippy,

It's true what people saying about porting from and to the same network but I also hear your point about getting a better deal doing  what you did.

There's a way around it that lots of people use to get the end result you want.

So the number that is ending on your contract and you want to keep. Port it from Vodafone onto a pay as you go sim from another provider. So pick up a free EE pay as you go sim online (or 3 or O2 - anyone).

It'll take one working day to port across.

As soon as it does, contact the network you ported to and get a PAC from them.

Enter those details onto your new VF contract (you can do it via My Vodafone).

One working day, old number is on new contact.
